Historia
The Civil War is over. The future of the American West is up for grabs. Any man crazy enough to lead a herd of Texas longhorns to the North stands to make a fortune - and make history. That man would be Nelson Story. A bold entrepreneur and miner, he knows a golden opportunity when he sees one. But it won't be easy. Cowboys and bandits have guns, farmers have sick livestock, and the army's got its own reasons to stop the drive. Even worse, Story's top hand is an ornery Confederate veteran who used to be his enemy.

What a great story!
Revisado: 01-19-24
There are not enough good westerns out there. this is one of them. I really enjoyed this and thought the performance was just great. I listen to five or six audiobooks a month and this one warrants five stars.

Historia
Ninety-one-year-old Gretel Fernsby has lived in the same well-to-do mansion block in London for decades. She lives a quiet, comfortable life, despite her deeply disturbing, dark past. She doesn’t talk about her escape from Nazi Germany at age 12. She doesn’t talk about the grim post-war years in France with her mother. Most of all, she doesn’t talk about her father, who was the commandant of one of the Reich’s most notorious extermination camps. All The Broken Places moves between Gretel’s girlhood in Germany to present-day London as a woman haunted by the past.

Stunning. Brilliant. Absolute perfection.
Revisado: 01-09-23
I live with audio books, I'm listening to them 2 to 7 hours a day. I know a good one when I hear it and I listen to a lot of superb audiobooks. I honestly can't come up with enough superlatives about the performance and the story. My only advice is that you must read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas before you listen to this. That is imperative. As is listening to this Masterpiece.

Historia
Booker Prize-winning author Salman Rushdie combines a ferociously witty family saga with a surreally imagined and sometimes blasphemous chronicle of modern India and flavors the mixture with peppery soliloquies on art, ethnicity, religious fanaticism, and the terrifying power of love. Moraes "Moor" Zogoiby, the last surviving scion of a dynasty of Cochinese spice merchants and crime lords, is also a compulsive storyteller and an exile.

Revisado: 12-19-22
I actually found the narrator entertaining but the story was far too difficult to follow in audiobook form unfortunately I'm not able to return so there went my one month credit.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

What a fantastic audiobook!
Revisado: 12-02-22
Stephen Weber was outstanding, and the story was gripping, but perhaps the best part of all was the character development. I can't say enough how great this book was and I'm jumping right in to the next in the series. Oh and did I say Stephen Weber was outstanding?? It was one of the best narrations I've listened to and in a daily listener to audiobooks and podcasts. Easiest 5 stars I've ever given.

Historia
So begins Kaikeyi’s story. The only daughter of the kingdom of Kekaya, she is raised on legends of the gods: how they churned the vast ocean to obtain the nectar of immortality, how they vanquish evil and ensure the land of Bharat prospers, and how they offer powerful boons to the devout and the wise. Yet she watches as her father unceremoniously banishes her mother, listens as her own worth is reduced to how great a marriage alliance she can secure. And when she calls upon the gods for help, they never seem to hear.

Formulaic female protagonist
Revisado: 11-27-22
if you don't care for the romance novel formula for idiotic stubborn naive stupid-beyond-belief female protagonist, you should skip this one. She is dumb and unimaginative and essentially unlikable. Her personality makes the narration actually grating. I spent a credit on this so I held my nose and listened to the end.

you don't have to be a Rancher to really like this
Revisado: 10-20-22
I'm not a Rancher but I grew up in Ranch Country. I am also really interested in new ways of thinking about growing food for the world. Plus I'm a child of the West and like hearing stories of the West. so this book really appeals to me. it is quite well written, very entertaining, and tells the story of a cowboy who comes to realize that ranch life is bigger and far more complex than the horseback life of the 1950s '60s and 70s. it's pretty much a coming-of-age story, interspersed with fantastic philosophical quotes from an astoundingly broad range of deep thinkers, and I enjoyed it a great deal. if you want to learn a little bit about the grasses of the Plains and Rockies and the future of growing our food supply while hearing a story of a life in the saddle this is a wonderful book for you. heck you don't even have to be interested in any of these things, it's just a darn good book.

He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Revisado: 08-13-22
I thought I was moderately well read and knew the story of Monte Cristo, but to really, truly, know this incredible book you need to listen to this incredible version. 52+ hours and it all builds up to a terrific denouement. I put on about 100 miles of steps a I listened and now that it's over I feel like I will miss having this commitment in my life. Listen! You ain't regret.
