No way is the author the narrator

I refuse to believe that this book is narrated by the author. Besides the incredibly poor editing with speed disruption and other sound errors, basic words are completely mispronounced. The word “eyes” was mispronounced! Character names are pronounced differently throughout. And this robotic monotone has 0 interest in the characters. I’ve refused ai read books, but I guess they’re shoving them down our throats now and claiming the author as narrator.

I am leaving this review based solely upon the narrator. I’ve already listened to five of these stories but now I just have to say something. The story itself is very entertaining and I like that. It’s a clean story that I don’t have to worry if my kids over here. The narrator, however, is a problem. In this particular book, it’s much more profound. In earlier books, I overlooked some occasional mispronunciations and odd accent. But in this one, it’s almost as though the narrator doesn’t know the story and is changing her voices as she goes. The main female character starts with a pretty strong accent. As we learn more about her, we find that she is a fourth generation Cuban American. Clearly, she would not have a heavy accent. The narrator realizes this and starts to lessen the accent as she goes. it would have been so much better if she recorded and corrected the accent for the entire length of the book. Also, she tends to get too close to her microphone, especially when using any kind of voice of authority. This makes a very unpleasant tin quality to the voice. one of my kids happened to listen to a piece of this book and she also commented on the narrator and how she would not want to listen to this book simply because of that. When I finish this series, I will add this narrator to my list of those to avoid.

I’ll start by saying I’m only about 1/3 of the way through the book and, were it not for my inability to leave a book only partially read, I would probably not finish it. The narrator is extremely monotone. I had to increase the speed just to get this far. She also doesn’t seem to be able to go back and forth between an English and American accent easily. There is little to no differentiation between the characters voices, even male and female. I will likely avoid any book she’s narrating in the future. The story itself is interesting so far, but a good narrator would make it so much better. Remember reading aloud in first grade when everything was slow and without inflection? Yep 💯

Love the author, stories are lovely. Book 1 was very enjoyable and entertaining. But the narrator on book 2 is horrendous. All the female characters are done in the same sing song tone and all the male characters sound like perverts. I haven’t even gotten half way through the 2nd book but I might abandon it because the narrator is ruining all the sweet sexy fun the author writes. I’ve even tried speeding it up to make it flow better, but it’s not enough. Please send this narrator back to reading porn subtitles.

I have listened to many books by this author and as usual, the stories are sweet and safe to listen to without worrying what the kids will hear. This set really did get repetitive, though. Every main character eventually feels like they have writhing snakes in their bellies for example. If you’re looking for historical accuracy, this is not for you. If you want your characters from 130+ years ago to talk like people today, you’ll be happy. My main issue, as it has been with every single book I’ve heard narrated by Gina Dobbs, is that it was wrought with mispronunciation. Someone finally taught her to say livery and a few other words anyone reading a western should know, but she very enthusiastically and with great confidence continues to mispronounce throughout every single thing she reads. If a word has 2 possible pronunciations, she will choose the wrong one every time. Acquiescence - she says uh-kway-sense. Self-deprecating she says self-depreciating. Cavalry is always Calvary. It wouldn’t be a big deal, except it just happens over and over with so many words that it’s really distracting.

I love this genre and these books are good, clean, very enjoyable, and pretty typical of the genre. My main problem is this narrator. I’ve heard her read at least 30 books, probably way more, and am always amazed at how she chooses to pronounce words she doesn’t know. And these are never difficult words, in fact, just the opposite and pretty standard for westerns. I’ve left many reviews, hoping either the publisher will teach Gina Dobbs to use google or just hire someone else. Example: reticule - a little old fashioned handbag pronounced re-ti-kewl, but she keeps pronouncing it re-tick-you-lay. How can you narrate historical fiction and not be able to say the most basic words?? It’s so distracting and even disrespectful to the authors.

As with all these books, the stories are nice, clean and sweet. As long as you aren’t expecting any sort of historical accuracy, it’s fine. The narrator, however, needs improvement. I’ve left numerous reviews primarily about the pronunciation problems of Gina Dobbs. In this book, she’s finally able to say livery, but she’s me other words still give her trouble. My main irritation with this book was the use of Calvary instead of the correct word: cavalry. Every time she says Calvary, my twisted humor says oh no, the baptists are coming!

The story is sweet and clean. Very enjoyable. The only problem is the narrator who makes many mispronunciations. It’s distracting and annoying . I’ve reviewed this narrator many times and have commented similarly each time. I don’t know if she genuinely believes she’s saying words correctly or is too lazy to look them up. Cavalry not Calvary…Chamomile, not Camomilly. Many others as well. No excuse when she could just ask Google.

Gina Dobbs has single handedly ruined so many books with her constant mispronunciation. I’m going to make it my new mission to find her and teach her how to say the words she keeps saying incorrectly. The book itself is a nice story, but I’m too distracted by the way Gina so confidently says things incorrectly over and over. If you have OCD and stuff like this bothers you, skip anything Gina Dobbs narrates.

I started this series after finishing a few dozen books by Linda Bridey. The stories are similar in tone, but much “cleaner” in that I don’t have to stop listening when my children walk in. The first few were read by a man I had heard before in westerns and he did a nice job. Then this reader took over…I was pretty sure I recognized the voice as the same reader who did so terribly on the last of Linda Bridey’s books, making so many mispronunciations that it was distracting. As soon as I heard her say “livery” I knew it was her. And saying Calvary instead of cavalry confirmed it for me. Why would anyone reading a western not research how to say the words!? Foal, a baby horse, rhymes with coal - fowl are birds. A piano forte is not a piano “fort.” There are many more examples I could list, but it’s too frustrating to go through them all.

I hope audible and Amelia Rose read these reviews and either educate this reader or find someone more capable who at least tries to use the words written by the author.
