you talk a lot, but you aren’t saying anything
Revisado: 05-15-24
the author has the ability to increase the word count to describe anything. my main complaint of this series if the MCs ability to know absolutely everything in his new multi verse without any explanation. another complaint is the MC, when we start the story he is a hipster with a man bun. now at book 12 everytime he speaks he is a philosiphizer (dodgeball)

Historia
Joe the Ritualist fled Alfheim with the remnants of the Dwarven Oligarchy at his side. Though the hairy warriors number in the tens of thousands, they stand at the brink of extinction; and the new world they landed on isn’t pulling any punches. Jotunheim is a winter wonderland featuring a vast array of monsters: the least of which are hulking lizard-ape Hoardlings, and carnivorous penguins standing a dozen feet tall.

Forced and no real progression
Revisado: 10-20-23
I’m fairly disappointed with this installment in the series. It seems as though Dakota didn’t have a clear plot line so he decided on a very floppy conflict. As mentioned in another review this conflict could honestly be a small 5 minute conversation instead of 7hrs of the book.

Due to unusual circumstances, Randidly starts in an isolated dungeon far beyond his level, forced to rely on the mysterious Traveler Shal in order to learn and survive with the dangerous new status quo for his world. But survive he does, only to leave the dungeon and discover that while he experienced several hellish months in the dungeon, only half a day passed on Earth. Randidly's capabilities are now more than enough to help build a small enclave of survivors, but that doesn't mean balancing his sense of responsibility against the plots of an unfriendly town will be easy.

Honest review
Revisado: 06-22-23
The author seems to be developing the story as they go. This review does have highlights which could be considered a spoiler. Throughout the story the Mc refuses to obtain a class even when his teacher told him to get a class. Why doesn’t he get a class? Because he wants to see how strong he can get without one? The story never gives a great reason as to why he shouldn’t. The next issue is when the town is founded they introduce a character named decklin and write him as some sort of psychopath who becomes obsessed with the Mc. After basically this chapter it is briefly mentioned again. I am currently going through book 2 and it’s non existent. These are just 2 of the issues I have had with the story so far. It took me about half of the book to become something I didn’t lose interest in.

Cringeworthy at times
Revisado: 06-01-23
The author does a pretty good job of explaining AOE and what not to people who maybe unfamiliar with gaming terms. That being said since it’s a VR game why is there a basic team chat (text based)? Listening to the reader say rofl was very cringeworthy. Another issue I noticed with the book was the author justifying certain actions he wanted the MC to do. Spoilers ahead, the Mc is a major badass who took martial arts and served his country. Oh and while he was serving he ran across a boy who he cared for like a brother now he finds an np who he cares for….. Overall if you are bored or if this book is free on audible I’d say go for it.

He has the ability to modify any item he owns; to upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. At least, that was until Felix leveraged a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give himself a great deal of points. Investing in Super Heroes and Super Villains and owning them. Using them, Felix built up an empire: an organization by the name of Legion.

Disappointed
Revisado: 05-12-23
I loved this series and waited patiently for a new book to come to audible for some time now. I can honestly say I’m disappointed with the direction the author is taking the story. As you have probably read from other reviews the author is living some fever dream. The story has always had a harem but not to the point the MC spends the whole book pandering to each person to let them know they are loved. The story could have progressed way more and I am going to drop the series.

Sooo much filler
Revisado: 02-28-23
I have 221 titles I have listened too and have followed Andrew Rowe since book one. This book was disappointing, it was nothing but filler and politics. I thought Ready Player Two was pretty political but I feel this book/author is taking it to a new level. Many other reviews point this out as well and I will not beat a dead horse.

I have no idea why I continue listening
Revisado: 12-17-22
I am currently on book 7. The first part of this review will be spoiler free then I’ll dive deeper. The series fails to ever truly explain the system. From levels for each grade to daos and so on. And yet somehow the MC magically gets all of the info he needs but the reader will never know. The author cares more about exposition when describing every little detail that it makes you quickly disconnect from the story. I like the world that has been built but I feel that the author has tried to add so many different systems that it’s very muddled.
Spoilers below
By book 7 you can toss out all understanding.
The Mc starts traveling to different worlds because the system gives him everything he could ever want for some reason. His mom shows up and gives him a Buttload of money and something to hide his core but even with it people find out who he is in a matter of seconds. All books before this make it seem like cultivators c and greater are rare but in this one his mom was a level 5 who was almost an oligarch which has never been mentioned before but is something new because we really needed something added.

Those in power do not believe in the possibility of triumph against the will of the gods, and instead squander their time and effort in indulging their needs and desires as the world quickly rots away around them. Mankind’s only hope rests on the shoulders of a man they hate the most. A man who has taken every possible measure, both accepted and forbidden, to attain power. Sungchul Kim, the man who reached the pinnacle of strength, now stands alone against the Calamities. Not because he is a hero, but because of a promise.

Don’t waste your time
Revisado: 08-11-21
I will admit I read the bad reviews but really needed something to listen too and it was a waste of a credit. I was ok with an OP Mc if it was done right and this was no where close. The Mc is not only op but he is able to pick up basically any skill with little to no issue. If that wasn’t bad enough the writer explains it as the Mc has studied from fighting others. Most of the time the author just says “if only they knew he was the strongest person in the world” that alone made this book cringe worthy coming up every paragraph. Another issue is the absolute lack of world building. We get tossed into the story, know nothing of the world and the author does nothing. Nick Podehl did great with what he had and I sure hope he got paid enough to read this. Another issue I had was the MC was all over the place emotionally. Sometimes he had morals and wanted to help someone and in the next chapter he would just walk away from a situation he could resolve in moments. “Spoilers”
the incident where he knew the student was a member of calamity and could simply kill him and progress the story learning magic he does nothing. His stat increases are absolutely moronic.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Not disappointed
Revisado: 04-27-21
Overall it was a great story. The MC showed some really great growth throughout the book. I like the system the author is going for when it comes to everyone’s essence’s but find it difficult to understand overall power. It’s kind of the same issue the dungeon born series had with tiers levels, essence blends and rank. The author is setting a great pace for story progression, I just hope they crank out these books one after another.

Disappointed....
Revisado: 12-08-20
I have listened to ready player one many many times over and have recommended it to others. I wanted to like the second book but in reality just couldn’t. Towards the beginning, the book decided to predict its own plot by bringing up SAO. Overall I think the very whinny characters ruined this book for me. The issues brought up in the book (sex, racism, poor) was tossed down your throat the entire book. If you are looking for the 80’s references the author did a really good job on his research for this installment. It you are looking for a social justice warrior manual then it is right up your alley.
