I came so close to returning this book

when I'm listening to an audiobook, narration is everything, and had I been reading the book, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it much more. The female narration was on mark. She mispronounced a few words, but her delivery was flawless. The male French accent in the first couple of chapters grated on my nerves. Suffer through it, though, because the male narration gets better and the book is charming.

listened to this on audible. I usually drift off somewhere into the 3rd or fourth chapter. not so with this one. exceptionally written. quite the plot twist at the end. very enjoyable. I'll be reading/listening to more from this author.

Enjoyed the narration

Toward the end of the book I dozed off for about a half hour. I didn't miss anything. The narration was pleasant. The characters were developed nicely. The gore seemed to prattle on indefinitely. It was lost on me for this reason.

Lured in by the reviews, I kept telling myself it would get better. It did not. Made it to chapter 5 and that was being generous. I really wanted to like this book as I was a big fan of the Rose Gardner series. Disappointed.

Same great narration but just falls short after that. I'm a big fan of the Rose Gardner Mysteries. Those books were hard to put down. This one, I had to go back to listen to several of the chapters more than once. I struggled through half the book before getting into the characters. It was a disappointment for me, especially after reading all of the other positive reviews.

Enjoyed the characters and story

The narrator mispronounced a couple of the words which always distracts from the story. The last five chapters could have been wrapped up into one, a lot of fluff. A few of the supporting characters could have been developed a little more, but coming in at the third book may have been the reason. Overall good story. Will have to go back and read previous 2 novels to see if my opinion changes.
