If Camu's Meursault was born in this day and age, he would have been diagnosed with Aspergers', or somewhere on the spectrum; given a bucket of mood-stablizing pills and told it was okay to grieve in his own way, to "you do you", and/or not to be a sheep and follow along, especially when his heart wasn't in it.

But this being 1940s Algeria, which is very much like my own 1980/90s Ethiopia, I get where his accusers are coming from and why he is seen the way he is.

Still, fabulous at 2nd read/listen as it was back when I read it as a teenager. Narrator has just the tone for a man who is a stranger to the times and his surroundings.

No mystery as to why this is one of the classics. As long as there are silly women, and selfish men, this would remain timely. Of course, it won't have been the same without the translator, and Ronald Pickup's superb performance. Out of this world! 👏👏👏

This book felt more intricate than the first two. I liked the story and characters despite narrator forgetting accents half way through. Love the ending. Very real life. Think I will listen further.

My 2nd book of the DC Smith world. Started out annoyingly slow. So slow that I attempted to "return" it before realizing I got it for free. But it picked up speed and tone half way through. This is more procedural than a who-done-it. It is easy to figure out why and even the means early on. But it is still a charming read. What is more, no "colored people" this time although I am beginning to think that was meant to be from Smith's point of view. He is a man who still becomes geedy at meeting a Lesbian couple, doesnt trust technology, and referrs to tablets as "tablet device". Loved the introduction of a new heroine into the story. Think I would like her. And ofcourse narrator is a champ.

4 out of 5.

A cozy decent mystery. Smith and Waters are just two of the cutest, oddest, "couple". Cant wait to read more, even if another use of the expression "the colored girl" may give a pause.

And that, really, is all the problem I have with this book and books written by those who believe what makes a woman appear strong is behaving like a dude. Starr was my least favorite actress. Neither was the other "girlboss", the Mayor lady. But I read this book not to solve the mysteries, or find someone to like. I read it because I wanna learn more about Native culture. Loved Dear Woman. Wish it wasnt upon her to save the wounded and the pained. That the laws of the land were able to protect women and children, native and otherwise. And that someone else cared.

But a decent work. Hope to read more of this, in fiction, and hear less of it in real life.

25% of the book is solid. The first part. Then it becomes a far fetched, spoiled detail of who bonketh who. Olivia's mental illness, if not her power to infilterate the rich and famous, is legit. The rest is disappointing. Still, keeps you engaged half the time. So 3.5 out of 5.

Her most mature book yet. Bernerd is the most lovable character she created. Loved Pandora's growth and Daisy's Daisiness. Disliked Gracie and Glen's repeat question as to "why we are fighting in Afghanistan", but, over all, a masterpiece almost close in quality is the first book in the cannon.

Miss Adrian already. Hope someone writes a fan fiction continuing the story.

Where do I start?
Too short.
Weak character development.
Not remotely funny.
Nor was there a believable explanation as to how Erin got blood all over her.

I can not believe I waited for this book for months, and woke up [with the excitement of a child on Christmas morning] on October 22nd. Feel cheated, let down, and robbed at the same. Not just because the two previous books were great but because all the literal bells and whitles on the audio book were simple time-fillers. Narrator still has two vocal ranges: constipated and unconvincing, which would have been okay if the book was anywhere near as funny as Everyone in my family has killed someone or clever as Everyone on this train is a suspect.

Hope the next one disappoints less. This was neither the money I spent on it, nor a great birthday present to myself.
