Historia
Barbara Demick's Nothing to Envy follows the lives of six North Koreans over fifteen years - a chaotic period that saw the death of Kim Il-sung and the unchallenged rise to power of his son, Kim Jong-il, and the devastation of a far-ranging famine that killed one-fifth of the population. Taking us into a landscape never before seen, Demick brings to life what it means to be an average Korean citizen, living under the most repressive totalitarian regime today.

5 STARS! The Best.
Revisado: 01-06-13
The story is bleak, heart wrenching and totally captivating. There is a great mix of detail on the national and personal scale that brings this story to life. I was so engrossed that I would find myself shivering and hungry at the end of every section.
Highly recommended!

Emotional Coaching
Revisado: 11-22-12
This is a practical book with good lessons that can be put to immediate use.
I particularly liked the chapters on recognizing temperaments and personality styles. This book changed how I view power struggles in general and reinforced my parenting communication goals.
I will listen to this again.

Historia
Kevin Mitnick was the most elusive computer break-in artist in history. He accessed computers and networks at the world’s biggest companies—and however fast the authorities were, Mitnick was faster, sprinting through phone switches, computer systems, and cellular networks. He spent years skipping through cyberspace, always three steps ahead and labeled unstoppable.

Unbearable
Revisado: 11-22-12
I could not get through this book.
There is a real story here, but perhaps it should have been written by someone else. There is an arrogance in both the writing and even the tone of the narrator that was unbearable. I would have liked to hear something from other people involved for the sake of authenticity. There were several points in the story that did not seem to ring true. Each time, Mitnick chalks this up to incredible coincidence or luck.

Historia
Over the course of his 60 years, Christopher Hitchens has been a citizen of both the United States and the United Kingdom. He has been both a socialist opposed to the war in Vietnam and a supporter of the U.S. war against Islamic extremism in Iraq. He has been both a foreign correspondent in some of the world's most dangerous places and a legendary bon vivant with an unquenchable thirst for alcohol and literature.

Hitchens in History
Revisado: 11-22-12
This moving and entertaining memoir added exponentially to my Audible wish list.
The author's personal circle included a host of other names in history (Susan Sontag, Salman Rushdie, Ian McEwan and Martin Amis to name a few). This list of names plus the author's travels has piqued my interest in areas such as Vietnam, the Soviet Union, Israel and Palestine to even London and New York.
As other reviewers have noted, Hitchens can mumble and even ramble at times, but this memoir is interesting and entertaining start to finish.

Who understood the risk inherent in the assumption of ever-rising real-estate prices, a risk compounded daily by the creation of those arcane, artificial securities loosely based on piles of doubtful mortgages? Michael Lewis turns the inquiry on its head to create a fresh, character-driven narrative brimming with indignation and dark humor, a fitting sequel to his number-one best-selling Liar’s Poker.

Fascinating.
Revisado: 11-06-12
In typical Lewis fashion, this book is very well written, very engaging. A complex, somewhat dry topic becomes a fascinating story. By the end, the listner is informed, yet will want more.

Historia
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.

Authentic
Revisado: 11-04-12
This is an excellent audiobook. The use of archival letters spaced throughout provide authenticity and great detail. The listener gets to know the personality and thoughts of principal players. There is some unnecessary repetition of famous quotes, though, and the pacing can be slow. I loved this audiobook, but would have liked to hear more about other, related aspects in America during this time such as civilian life and the economy.
