For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Fun and entertaining

I’ve read several long, involved books lately. This was just entertaining with a perfect narrator, I hope there’s a book 2.

Did not enjoy.
Revisado: 02-07-24
This book was a struggle. I bought it as a challenge to listen to a perspective I knew I wouldn’t agree with. And I didn’t. Mostly it’s an attack against the capitalist mindset. The last hour of the book I found valuable as it challenges those in politics about why they make the choices they make. But the 8 hours ahead seem to ignore personal accountability and assumes there’s a limit to the amount of success available in the world.
I will not be re-reading this book anytime soon.

Historia
Harry Cliff - a University of Cambridge particle physicist and researcher on the Large Hadron Collider - sets out in pursuit of answers. He ventures to the largest underground research facility in the world, deep beneath Italy's Gran Sasso mountains, where scientists gaze into the heart of the Sun using the most elusive of particles, the ghostly neutrino. He visits CERN in Switzerland to explore the "Antimatter Factory," where the stuff of science fiction is manufactured daily (and we're close to knowing whether it falls up).

Entertaining book. Author does an amazing job of explaining physics in a manner the average person can understand. This book should be mandatory reading for first year physics students!

Really a bible study with a marriage focus
Revisado: 02-22-19
I admit I could only make it an hour into this book. It so heavily references the Bible and the teachings of the Bible, that you may as well just go read the Bible. There are a couple of thought provoking ideas, but, at least within the first hour, not near enough to go beyond the very strong religious context of the book. I will say Lisa Raw Morris does a great job narrating though.

Historia
Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

One of my favourite series!
Revisado: 01-28-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely. I usually read/listen to fantasy books and love magic, dragons and the like. This series has magic, but is set in an alternate 1920-1930's world. Very well written, interesting dialog and witty characters. If you like magic and action, this series delivers!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hard Magic?
The fight between Fay and Delila is very memorable, especially as Fay starts to figure out her magic.
What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He brings the characters to life. A different voice for everyone, and injects excitement at all the right places.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed at several spots. Jake Sullivan's understated comments always brought a chuckle.

Not my favourite, but the ending gives me hope
Revisado: 08-01-13
Would you try another book from Terry Goodkind and/or Jim Bond?
Absolutely
Would you be willing to try another book from Terry Goodkind? Why or why not?
Absolutely. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Sword of Truth Series so far
What aspect of Jim Bond’s performance would you have changed?
Jim is a great narrator, but I think his performance could be improved with more emotion in his voice.
Could you see Chainfire being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Definitely not. I wonder if Chainfire was originally supposed to be only 1 book, but then became too long and was split up. However, it wasn't quite long enough so filler had to be added. There are many sections of the book where the character's thoughts are repeated over and over again.
Any additional comments?
For most of this book, I was very frustrated. Richard keeps getting beat down and can't catch a break. And with all of the repeated thoughts, I often just hoped the book would get on with it and get to a good part. If you've bought Chainfire, suffer through it; the ending picks up and makes it worth it. I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Revisado: 10-27-12
What made the experience of listening to Split Infinity the most enjoyable?
I read the apprentice adept trilogy when I was a teenager and thoroughly enjoyed them. Now nearly 40, it was wonderful to listen to an audio version of the series.
What did you like best about this story?
I like Piers Anthony's style, the way he uses magic. This is a great series as it blends technology and magic.

One of my favorites
Revisado: 10-27-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It reminded me of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. The magic is there, but more subtle than in many other fantasy books. The main characters are interesting, and Sam Tsoutsouvas does a fantastic job of breathing life into the words.
Which character – as performed by Sam Tsoutsouvas – was your favorite?
I think I enjoyed Zed the most, but Richard and Kahlan are great too.
