Historia
Cadia licks its wounds in the wake of the Thirteenth Black Crusade. The heretic forces retreat on all fronts. The day is won. But Lord Castellan Creed cannot rest easy. Something tells him the assault was a mere prelude to something greater, something more final. He is right. Out of the Eye of Terror comes Abaddon the Despoiler, at the head of a warhost unmatched in scale since the dread days of the Horus Heresy. In the face of the looming apocalypse, Creed must weld the champions of Cadia into a bulwark capable of withstanding Abaddon’s fury.

what all wh40k books should aspire to be
Revisado: 04-18-25
Id more or less lost interest in the wh40k books, lore is good and all but most of the fighting has been around a wartable not troops on the ground. this shows you the fighting on the ground. Cadia stands! 24 in the war!

good and bad
Revisado: 12-04-24
overall I enjoyed the book but the ending is getting rough (have roughly 5 hours left) and I'm a bit irritated by her attitude during the final threat of the book. going in with a team to find a specific threat and she jumps ship to fight single monsters almost immediately even tho she said she'd help with a time critical problem. I enjoyed the beginning and middle of the book but I'm struggling with the last little bit

Historia
The war against the AI was won but a new threat is rising. Hank Spears is content with his life as a scrapper until he unearths an artificial intelligence who warns him of a grave threat to all life in the universe. Since AI has long been outlawed and anyone caught harboring one is imprisoned or executed, the two must go on the run, fleeing into the far reaches of space. They must avoid capture, all for the sake of those who would imprison them. Looking for help from old friends to fight new enemies, Hank must find a way to save himself so that he can save the universe.

Something doesn't add up
Revisado: 09-17-24
I don't get the whole "saving the universe" thing. The main character just drops his whole life and says he's doing this because he wants to "save everyone" from a threat that kinda doesn't exist. Sure, code name extinction sounds scary but it's been 200 years and nothing has happenee, it's either not a threat anymore or waiting for someone to awaken it

Historia
When an ambitious teenage girl from Earth finds herself in a magical realm, she could be the hero—but she'd prefer to be the villain. When power-hungry Everly is reborn into a medieval world where elemental magic rules and she receives her elemental servants—the oddly sadistic Eris and the fun-loving Titania—years earlier than one typically would, she knows she's destined for a command of necromantic magic the likes of which her peers can only dream.

poorly written main character
Revisado: 08-12-24
Everly is poorly written, that's my biggest complaint with this. I can get behind giving her some "main character" buffs but this girl gets all the buffs, can deflect bullets with a sword while in our world, goes to the other world and at 3 days old she gets more magical power than anyone else in the whole world, creates an imaginary world where shes a teen again and can train while complaining about a karate fighting style because its more about the movement and technique over actually fighting anyone, mind you while she's complaining about this style not being good because it's not "real fighting" she's fighting an imaginary sword master while she's still an infant in the real world . . . I gave up after that.

Historia
The Troubles. A quaint name for a horrific period in the galaxy's history. A period whose atrocities were superseded only by the terror of the Savage Wars that had come before. Almost no corner of the galaxy was spared a taste of terrible war, cutthroat intrigue…and remorseless death. In the aftermath, this battered galaxy now longs for peace and stability. The Republic, now reformed, seeks to govern by the rule of law. But no matter how sincere the reform, how earnest and well-meaning the ruler, some worlds refuse to place their destiny in the hands of others. Ever again.

Great story, mediocre narration
Revisado: 05-23-24
Glad GE is back with season 3, I liked hearing how Wraith became the terror he is in the current timeline. I still have a few hours left but I'm excited to see where this season goes.
Mark Boyett does an ok narration but his characters are lacking, I always have a hard time figuring out which character is talking at any given time. Lao Pak is the only character I can get right away, Aizen, Doc, Chun, all the legionares, even Zara all sound so similar. Not sure why they swapped from RC Bray again but if we can't get Bray back can we at least get someone like Luke Daniels or Travis Baldree? If Boyett does the whole season I'll probably switch to reading instead of audible.

decent story if you can get through the narrator

This is probably my least favorite of all the medal of the centurion books. The story is ok, but the narrator makes it tough to finish.

decent story with glaring military issues
Revisado: 08-22-21
I'm currently about halfway thru, overall it's a decent story, but there are some seriously glaring annoyances like why on god's green earth did anyone let a guy drive off to his girlfriends house with a m249 and grenade launcher in the back of his car? or some boot marine drive off base with a humvee? noone went after him? nobody noticed a military vehicle was gone?
I enjoy the combat and military speak, overall story is compelling but there is no way these guys got off a military base with a fully loaded combat kit inside the US outside of a warzone

Historia
Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.
Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

unrealistic military
Revisado: 05-29-21
The navy's competency is seriously lacking on both sides. The main character wakes up to find the Navy devolved from a force that used strategy to a navy thats sole doctrine is every ship for itself. For a war going on 100 years the people would undoubtedly get tired of war but to devolve to just throwing forces at each other doesn't make sense.

Historia
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

mediocre at best
Revisado: 12-20-20
I've tried to get thru this book twice now and stop with around 5 hours left, there is no comraderie between characters in the unit. everyone is out for themselves. Every character that is first introduced seems interesting and sounds like a good soldier then it turns out their either a coward who actively tries to stay out of combat or only care about their own advancement. The main character is the only person who is actively trying to help the situation or taking action, everyone else just feels like useless background characters to make out protagonist sound like an even better person
