Predictable, and stereotyped- big disappointment in this series final, especially compared to the previous stories. Don’t waste a credit

I agree with some of the reviews here-Peter, June, and Louis-were more or less secondary characters in this story. we do get some peter ash action-but the story events were very much predictable, and so disappointing. I still like the peter ash stories, and will try some more-when they become available, i just hope the next installment in the series, is more like the previous ones, and less like this one.

Entertaining, and the humor comes through clearly, and a few twists as well. It may be unbelievable, but it’s very entertaining story telling 👍

It was disappointing. The main character, Chloe, did a couple of stupid things, that put her in the position she found herself in, and from there it went down hill.

for those who may not have had the pleasure of reading any of the previous cormoran strike(and robin :-) )novels, strike is an ex military policeman-who served in Afghanistan-and was injured, and now has a prosthetic leg,-which even though it gives him trouble, he overcomes. nor has it affected his outlook on life, or his love of crime solving, hence is why he opened a private investigation agency, and hired robin as a junior partner, who also has a love of investigation. but they do not have a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.

along those lines, the previous case, which put strike in the limelight-so to speak-plays a small part in this story, but only in regards to some of the story-and is mentioned a few times in this story, so the reader/listener, will get to know what happened, but does not need to know all the details to enjoy this story. but I do recommend that, even though it is not needed for this story, the previous strike cormoran stories are as excellent and as enjoyable as this one.

because of this case, the "limping along" agency, has had some good-and bad-improvements. the good things are the agency has gotten more publicity, and so has gotten more clients-some paying well, some paying average, and some new employees as well.

the bad is that the agency-and strike in particular-does not get to keep his investigating low profile, as he is well known, and can not do much undercover work now. it turns out to be something robin and his other employees do, and we find out that robin is very good at "undercover" work.

the fame that the agency, and strike in particular, brings all kinds of possible clients to it's doors, one of these clients turns out to be a man, who as a child, believes he witnessed a murder, although he has been told he did not witness a murder, and although there was never any proof of any kind of murder then, he is convinced he's right about what he saw, and believes that cormoran and company are the best ones to resolve, and uncover, whatever he was he saw when he was younger.

in this case, as all the previous ones, strike deals with rich and poor people, some shady characters, as well as some not too shady characters, and some actual nice characters.

in this story, as well, there is angst, angst from strike and from robin-in their private lives, as well as their agency lives, and even though this angst plays a part in this story, it is not all of the story, nor does it focus on the angst, but on the story.

there is, as usual, a good mystery(or two), a few twists and turns, surprises-some expected and unexpected ones, a story unfolding wonderfully, and interestingly, and some excellent narration, which always helps marvelously with a story.

cash -predictable-city,with stereotyped characters

cash city was a disappointing story, as far as i'm concerned. the characters were all stereotyped, and the storyline itself was very predictable. the "mob" is trying to take over this city. no drive-by shootings kind of thing, but a couple bad dudes have started threatening the little guys who sell drugs, so it can be one big business.

without going into too much detail, even the hero was stereotyped-and what happened to him is so obvious at the beginning of the story-that it never gets unobvious-no twists, no turns.

I've heard much better narration, but i've also heard worse. If you like predictable story lines and stereotyped characters than use your credit on this story, otherwise, pass it by.

the premise of the story is a good one, and I'm guessing the author wanted the ending to be a twist-but to me it wasn't. I thought I had it figured out, almost from the beginning, how it was going to end, and I was right-no twister to me.

Also, there is not many 1st person view point stories I care for. Some do turn out to be better than I think, however, but for the rest, not so much. To me, at least, it makes the story drag on too much, and that just doesn't hold my attention-so I end up skipping over half of the story. I give it a chance at the beginning, but then when it gets too drag on too much, I skipped to the last hour to last half hour.

What can happen to old spies. ?

I love me a spy as a good guy novel-and to read that this particular spy has Alzheimer's, was very intriguing. The story is serious, caring, and of course at times funny. This story is unique, not only in the way of an Alzheimer's laden spy, but also in the "way" and "what of" the location of a bomb-that this spy helped create. I won't say any more, because I don't want to give too much away, but this story was really unique-at least to me. It also focuses on the relationship between a spy and his family-that part is not surprising, but it is handled very nicely, I thought.

a cardboard character in my opinion

What would have made The Cut better?

less stereotyping.

What was most disappointing about George Pelecanos’s story?

the main character was like a cardboard cut out. he had some good aspects to his character, but nothing really suprising.

Which character – as performed by Dion Graham – was your favorite?

maybe leo-spero's brother.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment.

Any additional comments?

i have not read this author before-at least not that i remember, and i might give the 2nd book in this series a try, but i won't be rushing to do it too soon.

What did you love best about The Thief Taker?

I loved the narration-and the action, but best of all, I loved getting a feel for the poorer side of London in 1665

What other book might you compare The Thief Taker to and why?

none that I can think of. :-)

What does Napoleon Ryan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was an awesome narration-as far as i know he got all the accents right-and the different character's ways of talking. it just was so easy to tell who was who, and each and every character was a joy to hear.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

there was no outstanding, or sad, or happy moment in this story-to me, but that didn't stop me from liking all of it.

Any additional comments?

some parts of the story were predictable-but very few in the whole story-and it was so interesting to me to imagine what the poor side of London was like in 1665, as opposed to my usual reading of the upper classes of London-different periods anyway.
