The story was better than average for a serial mystery. The narrator lacks range for the characters and it often sounds like Moira Rose from the show Schitts Creek is reading the story. When she announces the next chapter, she says it in a way that one can imagine her rolling her eyes. Speeding up the narration is a must with this narrator.

The characters created make me want to know more about them, in a good way. The mystery was twisty enough to keep my interest. I will be listening to the series as long as they are well done like this first volume.

I did not finish. I feel a little shame in that. It seemed like a great tangle of a story. It was a tangle, just not that great. It became tedious and found I didn't want to exert the energy to follow the leaps from character to character.

I feel like this book punched my heart

I completely enjoyed this story. It is an honest look at how we process our grief. I had to continuously remind myself "this is not real, it's just a story" because I was feeling so anxious. I was also on the verge of tears. The story has plenty of light moments for balance. I feel I have learned a valuable tool to help in the grieving process.
I feel like it would be a great book club book. So many great topics for real conversations.

The choice of Narrator was a YUGE mistake

I could not get through the book. Every time the narrator said words like Huge, he pronounced them with a Y, like YUGE. Each time it bothered me more and more. I couldn't make it past the 3rd or 4th chapter. I'm sure the story is good, I've read many other titles from this author. I just can't handle the dropping of an H for a Y.

The story was all the things I love, mystery, old castle, hidden passages, fairy tales, love and murder. The narrator had the weirdest speech cadence. like an exaggerated William Shatter, and her accent..... I can't explain it. it was all over the world. ha!

a nice mystery to listen to while working

The story was good, characters amusing and realistic. The narrator, while he gets an A+ for bringing the story alive, the voices are a bit cartoony. It was like I was listening to a Muppet version of a detective story. This amused me a little, it detracted from my overall enjoyment.
