Historia
Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

audio engineers and producers incredibly lazy
Revisado: 11-01-24
the exorcist's reputation precedes itself for good reason. as far as the reading aloud by the author -- started promising with blattys low smokers voice , the dialogue pretty much stays in the same measured tone and only slightly higher pitch for reagan and an accent for karl. then the emotional dialogue comes in and blatty goes overdramatic for an authentic impression of a wailing woman and girl for those lines. at this point you need your hand near the volume control but it was excellent until then. if a character is angry, he reads a sentence like an unrealistically long & steady build up to yelling, like I said so overdramatic. soon he will go all in with trying to make it spoooooky and his normal low voice becomes a complete whisper for heaps of lines.
it's clear that the engineers and producers knew this product would sell itself so made no effort to equalize the volume or give blatty any direction towards a more listenable audiobook and they knew they could sit on their thumbs and the money would roll right in. so that this is a production of first-takes. blatty may have wanted to be an actor or otherwise kind of performer and it really awkwardly shows...but that's what the production company is there for so you can't really blame him. a good audiobook wouldn't demand your hand to stay on the volume knob and tolerate hammy dialogue reading. I just can't see listeners actually enjoying this long moaning into the mic as horror followed by whispers to be suspense. Best listen thru small speakers to minimize these errors

Historia
In 1632, an entire convent in the small French village of Loudun was apparently possessed by the devil. After a sensational and celebrated trial, the convent's charismatic priest Urban Grandier - accused of spiritually and sexually seducing the nuns in his charge - was convicted of being in league with Satan. Then he was burned at the stake for witchcraft. A remarkable true story of religious and sexual obsession, The Devils of Loudun is considered by many to be Brave New World author Aldous Huxley's nonfiction masterpiece.

narrator too happy with himself
Revisado: 10-25-24
the writing is good from aldous huxley. this unfortunately is by yet another narrator who its really important to him, you think he's intelligent. this is regarding to the french-language quotations -- the french themselves dont draw out the most french sounding syllable of every other word like our narrator does. another reviewer pointed this out and it really takes a lot out of the otherwise fine audiobook. when so much misplaced effort is put into these wack french-language recitations it is really taxing on the listener, like this narrator holds the rest of the book hostage to put on his little display for you to agree he sounds smart. if I'm grasping at straws with this then just see for yourself

Historia
Thirty years in New York City's public schools led John Gatto to the sad conclusion that compulsory schooling does little but teach young people to follow orders like cogs in an industrial machine. With over 100,000 copies in print since its original publication in 2002, this book is collection of essays and speeches and includes a describes the wide-spread impact of the book and Gatto's "guerrilla teaching". John Gatto was a teacher in New York City's public schools for over 30 years and was a New York State Teacher of the Year.

real inspired writing
Revisado: 05-10-24
I think we would benefit if the criticisms in this book were discussed within schools themselves. points found in here are still not seen elsewhere, and the authors work expierence shows its value. i disagree with gatto on a few points but his book remains overwhelmingly necessary. the history of education isn't understood enough, I now realize.
the narrator -- I could tolerate fine at first but by the end became so agitating to hear. his tone is of overacting the 'reading to children' voice put on. sounds like a pouty embouchure like an overweight middle-aged man who fancies himself a grandmama

Historia
Was World War II really the 'Good War'? In the years since the declaration of peace in 1945, many myths have sprung up around the conflict in the victorious nations. In this audiobook, Peter Hitchens deconstructs the many fables which have become associated with the narrative of the 'Good War'. Whilst not criticising or doubting the need for war against Nazi Germany at some stage, Hitchens does query whether September 1939 was the right moment or the independence of Poland the right issue.

bad audiobook
Revisado: 04-26-24
the writing is good but the author should really get someone else to narrate his books. I tried all variations of my bass/mid/treb and fade settings to make it listenable. his volume has a rhythm, of one word spoken so loud to blow the decibel meter, then the following words spoken really soft and mumbled. then the squeaking of his "s" sounds can become such a loud whistle that some sentences sound like rock concert amplifier feedback.
