Historia
When Viola Carroll was presumed dead at Waterloo she took the opportunity to live, at last, as herself. But freedom does not come without a price, and Viola paid for hers with the loss of her wealth, her title, and her closest companion, Justin de Vere, the Duke of Gracewood. Only when their families reconnect, years after the war, does Viola learn how deep that loss truly was. Shattered without her, Gracewood has retreated so far into grief that Viola barely recognizes her old friend in the lonely, brooding man he has become.

Historia
By the time Rock Hudson's death in 1985 alerted all America to the danger of the AIDS epidemic, the disease had spread across the nation, killing thousands of people and emerging as the greatest health crisis of the 20th century. America faced a troubling question: What happened? How was this epidemic allowed to spread so far before it was taken seriously?

Fabulous
Revisado: 05-20-21
Rosaline is such an understandable character. The “bad” guy is insidiously creepy. The “good” guy is sweetly amazing. And the important information about life and bisexuality, sex and negotiation is integrated beautifully into the sex.
Alexis is an amazing author. You can’t go wrong with him. You should totally listen if you are into beautiful romances with baking.
And in addition to a marvelous story, the narrator and her narration, brings the story to life.

A lovely story with good messages about a sweet boy told in the best possible way.

Historia
Luc O'Donnell is tangentially - and reluctantly - famous. His rock-star parents split when he was young, and the father he's never met spent the next 20 years cruising in and out of rehab. Now that his dad's making a comeback, Luc's back in the public eye, and one compromising photo is enough to ruin everything. To clean up his image, Luc has to find a nice normal relationship...and Oliver Blackwood is as nice and normal as they come. He's a barrister, an ethical vegetarian, and someone who has never inspired a moment of scandal in his life. He’s perfect boyfriend material.

Alexis Hall is a wonderful writer whose characters are full of life and joy. You can feel the fun he has playing with language and the thoughtfulness put into it.
Joe Jameson did a fabulous performance. He was a full cast of characters himself. I particularly liked his upper class nitwit performance.
I highly recommend this book.

Historia
"I had never planned to become a savanna baboon when I grew up; instead, I had always assumed I would become a mountain gorilla," writes Robert Sapolsky in this witty and riveting chronicle of a scientist's coming-of-age in remote Africa. An exhilarating account of Sapolsky's twenty-one-year study of a troop of rambunctious baboons in Kenya, A Primate's Memoir interweaves serious scientific observations with wry commentary about the challenges and pleasures of living in the wilds of the Serengeti-for man and beast alike.

Fascinating and horrifying
Revisado: 06-17-20
This is a book of stories that pull you in. About baboons, about the author, about the Masai, about how difficult life can be in Africa. Wonderful and horrifying. Love and corruption.
The narration was fine but his voice comes off as slightly, how to describe it, flat and slightly yelly-y. Distant, maybe. Like a person recounting a story from long ago so the emotions are slightly worn away. Maybe that is appropriate. It fits the narrative.

Historia
Rafe is a normal teenager from Colorado. He's been out since 8th grade, accepted by his peers & championed by his progressive parents. And while that's important, all Rafe really wants is to be a regular guy. To have his sexuality be a part of who he is, but not the headline, every single time. So when Rafe transfers to an all-boys' boarding school in New England, he decides to keep his sexuality a secret - not so much going back in the closet as starting over with a clean slate.

2nd time’s a charm
Revisado: 03-08-20
I just finished my second listen of this book. The first time was several years back so I only vaguely remembered a few plot points. The first time through I remember being vaguely disappointed, like the books’s high notes were flat. (Maybe in combination with the second book which I haven’t relistened to yet and don’t remember off hand.) Anyway, the first time I was all about the romance which this book has but it isn’t about. This time I was able to appreciate the morals of the story - be yourself, the world isn’t judging you quite as much as you think, listen to the people around you.
I did appreciate that in the very last sentences (no spoilers) that he did mention it was ok to be still and not take part in the dancing and whirling that others may do.
(I still cringe about how loud and in your face Rafe’s parents are in public.)

Henry’s the odd man out. All his friends are settling down, and his reputation as the hook-up king of London seems more like a curse than a blessing, these days. Putting aside his feelings, Henry decides to give up casual sex and look for the real deal. After all, he has no chance with Ivo. Or, does he?

Dull
Revisado: 03-05-20
First, Joel does a fabulous narration as always.
The story and characters have massive potential but the conflict was just the MCs being oblivious which works sometimes but not here. I also never got a handle on who Ivo was. Like he read one way but then acted in ways that seemed out of the character established for him. Even hair color. I was surprised every time his blondness was mentioned.
I ended up skipping the last hour or so except the final 10 minutes.
I much preferred the second book (which still has an oblivious MC as the conflict). The first book - I don’t appreciate employer-employee “snarky” and oblivious romances.
