Perfect!

I bought this book for my eight-year-old godson on a road trip from North Carolina to New York. He has never been in the car this long so I wasn't sure how he'd do. This book was absolutely exceptional! Between the wonderful narration, music and sound effects, it was so easy to get engrossed in the story. This performance will make you feel like you are in a theater and the acting and music is so amazing you will be able to visualize exactly what's happening. I may have enjoyed it even more than he, lol!! It was a nice distraction for a few hours between his toys and electronic games. I hadn't thought of it in advance but was so glad when it came to me while I was listening to one of my own books. Now it will always be something we plan for. Thanks audible, once again you have made us very happy!!!!!

Not as Expected

I thought this was going to be a thrilling story of how lightening your load leads to new and exciting adventures....I think that's what the author was going for, but this story was exceptionally dull. I thought at first it was the reader but then realized the reader is the author. I literally had to increase the speed just to force myself to stay focused. I don't want to go on being so insulting but this is not a book I would ever recommend, nor will I read anything else by this author.

Intriguing

I really enjoyed this book, it made me want to learn more about Hemingway. I don't know much and had some interest after seeing the Hemingway & Gellhorn movie. Now I have a little idea of the timeline - based on the information given at the end of this book, I think Gellhorn may have been his third wife. I'm actually going to do some research and find out more about his life and his contributions to writing...which is exactly what a book should do, make you want to find out more information, open up your desire to learn. The lifestyle during these years is absolutely intriguing, the accepted infidelity and even more so, the amazing ability to travel overseas and experience life in different places on such a meager salary! I loved it and loved their ambition and drive to take those chances. It gave me that much more of a push to commit to my list of places to see!
The only thing that was a little confusing in this book is all the nicknames for people. When you are listening versus reading, I think it might be more difficult to connect the real names with the nicknames as they are used interchangeably. Overall, a fantastic "read", one I would definitely recommend. I'm glad I purchased it!

Disappointing

I had expectations that this book would "teach" me something, or impart knowledge I'd never heard or considered. Not the case. I found it to be a not so funny, mostly disgusting, retracing of her own steps....a coming of age story I hope to never hear again. I couldn't relate at all to her years of mental and emotional anguish. There are lots of ppl who loved the book and took key initiatives from it, I just think my journey is different. I don't believe that public nudity is everyone's solution to loving their body, and I don't hate myself altho I've been almost every size imaginable. I do think that ppl have a choice; you can learn to love your body, but if you don't, you have multiple healthy options to change it. If your challenges are not that "severe" I'm not sure this book will do much for you.

Best Experience Ever!!!!!

This book was amazing! I never thought I would sit at home and listen to a book, for fear I'd fall asleep. I always listen to my Audible collections in my car, but this book I could not "put down"! The storyline was absolutely phenomenal, I mean I did get sooo frustrated with Theo at different points - times when he needed to speak up and didn't, or the times he spoke up and was just sounded stupid, LOL! But I realize a lot of it was his youth, and the only thing I desired was knowledge of his age at different transitions. However, I have not been so engaged in a story in a very long time and have been recommending this book to everyone! You will never know the twists and turns that are coming, this is unlike any common "coming of age" story you have ever encountered. Oh, and one more thing, I would absolutely recommend this book on Audible, the narrator is exceptional and his accents and dialects are perfection! You will absolutely not get the same effect buying the physical book. Hate that the story is over, would love a Part II!! Enjoy!!!!!

Looking Forward to Marriage

I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it on a whim so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have never been married and unfortunately don't currently have a prospect, but it is something that I am looking forward to in my lifetime. It was amazing to hear all the wonderful stories of happily married people, to hear all of the great suggestions on what to do right and to "experience" people appreciating each other in their lifelong journey together. This book got me excited about the opportunity of sharing an amazingly happy life with my right guy. Thanks Fawn!

Just Okay

This book has tons of positive reviews but I just didn't have the same connection to it. This did not make me want to run out and begin my own happiness project. I felt like there were a lot of things drawn out to make this into a full book, discussions about things that I found to be air relevant and unhelpful. The overall story was OK and I'm glad Gretchen benefited from her project but I'm not likely to read anything else she writes. I will say that one positive thing is her narrating her own book, I just don't feel like someone else would have used the right inflection and made the funny and key points come across properly.

One to Revisit!

I loved this book and Marianne narrating made it even better. Great insight and direction for change...she makes you feel as though you can actually accomplish your initiatives. Small changes and tweaks in your daily living will lead you on your path to graciousness. I will re-listen to this often and continue to grow & improve!!!!
