Great story- HATED the husband, the sexist nature of the times. Kept shaking my head through the entire book. Twists and turns. Loved every minute.

Intriguing elements
Revisado: 02-03-24
Story had some intriguing ideas but for me it fell through. I kept waiting for the details to come out, for the secrets to be revealed about the MIL, the church, the history of the house but it all stayed rather vague. I can’t say that I regret the purchase because there’s so much potential but I can’t say it knocked my socks off either.

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

The Yaga siblings—Bellatine, a young woodworker, and Isaac, a wayfaring street performer and con artist—have been estranged since childhood, separated both by resentment and by wide miles of American highway. But when they learn that they are to receive an inheritance, the siblings agree to meet—only to discover that their bequest isn’t land or money, but something far stranger: a sentient house on chicken legs.

Fast paced but easy to follow. Grady Hendrix always draws me in to a story. Pleasantly surprised that the areas they grew up were local to me. My mind is still demanding more.

Historia
Once upon a time, the kingdoms of Wales were rife with magic and conflict, and eighteen-year-old Mererid “Mer” is well-acquainted with both. She is the last living water diviner and has spent years running from the prince who bound her into his service. Under the prince’s orders, she located the wells of his enemies, and he poisoned them without her knowledge, causing hundreds of deaths. After discovering what he had done, Mer went to great lengths to disappear from his reach. Then Mer’s old handler returns with a proposition: use her powers to bring down the very prince that abused them both.

Such good story telling
Revisado: 02-18-23
I have to say both the author and the narrator did amazing with this book. The narrator is extremely talented at different voices and emoting feeling into her voice, trembling voices, the tsk tsk, the sighs- all go toward painting a very real picture. This is my second from this author and I’m still very enchanted. Made me a little tearful towards the end and that’s saying something. My only dislike… I want more. I kept wishing that there was another part, another chapter. Very similar to Jeff Wheeler’s story telling. And I live all of those books. I highly recommend both the author and the narrator.

Historia
Helen Vaughan doesn't know why she and her mother left their ancestral home at Harrowstone Hall, called Harrow, or why they haven't spoken to their extended family since. So when her grandfather dies, she's shocked to learn that he has left everything—the house, the grounds, and the money—to her. The inheritance comes with one condition: She must stay on the grounds of Harrow for one full year, or she'll be left with nothing. There is more at stake than money. For as long as she can remember, Harrow has haunted Helen's dreams.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 10-27-22
I enjoyed this book. If you choose to do so, it can make you look at your morals, how humans can be so arrogant, rip something into this world and rip it apart. Do you sacrifice people for the greater good? Do you free a monster? Good vs evil all depends on your perception. This is a good story on the surface, sufficiently creepy and mysterious. But it has a depth that is very intriguing should you choose to dive in.

Historia
At Iyot Lock, a large decaying house, two young cousins, Leonora and Edward, are parked for the summer with their aging spinster aunt and her cruel housekeeper. At first the unpleasantness and petty meanness appear simply spiteful, calculated to destroy Edward's equanimity. But when the spoiled Leonora is not given the birthday present of a specific dolly that she wants, affairs inexorably take a much darker turn with terrifying, life-destroying consequences for everyone.

Had potential
Revisado: 02-07-21
This book had some very good potential. I really enjoyed the beginning and middle of the book. The end...well I feel somewhat let down. I think there was a lot more to explore that was left undone. The writing itself was superb. The performance was good. Just that the end didn’t do it for me.
