Now tell us - did you ever like Japan? Do you know anything about its history, or just what you learned from television and anime, in general? That's a good starting point, anyway. If you want to delve deeper into Japanese history, in chronological order, and see the main events that transformed Japan into what it is today, you've just hit the jackpot.

This guy sounds like he's high. Don't bother!
Revisado: 04-23-18
Would you try another book from Rui Kanda and/or William Bahl?
William Bahl is my problem. He literally sounds like one of those surfer types that are high when they are doing something serious. The book was read too fast, he sounded like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I was so nauseous I had to turn it off, and now I plan on returning it. What a waste of time.
Would you ever listen to anything by Rui Kanda again?
I might, as long as it's not read by Bahl.
Would you be willing to try another one of William Bahl’s performances?
Hell no. What a waste.
What character would you cut from History of Japan?
Since I couldn't follow the reading, I can't tell you.

Historia
Julian Fellowes's Belgravia is the story of a secret. A secret that unravels behind the porticoed doors of London's grandest postcode. Set in the 1840s, when the upper echelons of society began to rub shoulders with the emerging industrial nouveau riche, Belgravia is peopled by a rich cast of characters. But the story begins on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. At the Duchess of Richmond's new legendary ball, one family's life will change forever.

Historia
With profound empathy and insight, Hermione Lee brilliantly interweaves Wharton's life with the evolution of her writing, the full scope of which shows her to be far more daring than her stereotype as lapidarian chronicler of the Gilded Age. In its revelation of both the woman and the writer, Edith Wharton is a landmark biography.

If you like Bohemian History, I don't
Revisado: 05-15-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I didn't care for this book. She may be old "Knickerbocker money" but she publishes her love life like a who's who of Montmartre. Kind of reminded me of "Moulin Rouge" the movie, of the slums of Montmartre. I don't mind hearing about who is a mistress of whom, I do mind hearing about the love letters and salacious discussions about stuff.
What could Hermione Lee have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I honestly think she did as best as she could with the publication. When there is little to write about, you get your hands on what you can write about.
What didn’t you like about Kate Reading’s performance?
Just fine.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Grossed out.

Just step out your door today, and you will notice that poise is a rarity in our wired, fast-paced, and unmannerly world. As uncivil behaviors like flip-flops at Broadway shows and digital oversharing proliferate, this timely book reminds us of the quiet power of behaving with dignity, kindness, and grace. Jennifer L. Scott's Parisian mentor, Madame Chic, embodied poise and not just with the good posture, stylish attire, and natural manners that made her extraordinarily elegant.

Historia
In 1928, Rosina Harrison arrived at the illustrious household of the Astor family to take up her new position as personal maid to the infamously temperamental Lady Nancy Astor, who sat in Parliament, entertained royalty, and traveled the world. "She's not a lady as you would understand a lady" was the butler's ominous warning. But what no one expected was that the iron-willed Lady Astor was about to meet her match in the no-nonsense, whip-smart girl from the country.

Great Help Book, helps families survive it
Revisado: 03-30-17
Would you listen to Stop Walking on Eggshells again? Why?
Yes, it helps reinforce the need to survive from collateral damage of the disorder. Family members need to know how to survive it once they find out what it is. The label isn't there to antagonize the one who has it, it is merely a developmental recommendation for the people that have to live with a person that has BPD. This book has been recommended by several therapists I know in the profession, and also by several family support methods.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, you need to ingest what is being written, and how to plan your life with it. It helps open your eyes to the experiences of those with the disorder, and how to adjust your life to living and supporting that individual, or to ultimately decide that their behavior isn't acceptable at all. It helps define what is your standard for living and what is unacceptable for you to have to live with.

Here is the first full-scale biography of Wallis Simpson to be written by a woman, exploring the mind of one of the most glamorous and reviled figures of the 20th century, a character who figured prominently in the blockbuster film The King’s Speech. This is the story of the American divorcée notorious for allegedly seducing a British king off his throne.

Total twist on the Duchess of Windsor
Revisado: 03-30-17
If you could sum up That Woman in three words, what would they be?
Loved, loved it!
Have you listened to any of Samantha Bond’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Loved it! Thanks for putting a familiar voice on, I loved listening to Lady Rosamund. It really put an interesting spin on the book.
Any additional comments?
I totally enjoyed this book. It helped round out my information on the Duchess. I had only heard what other people wrote, and so this really brought ground to who she actually was. I totally recommend it.

Once you here the forward, it's a total downer
Revisado: 03-30-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I couldn't get past the negativity of the forward. I started listening to all this bragging about who he was and where his family was from and I just went "Ugh!" I really haven't gotten to listen to the point of the story yet because I was so annoyed by the forward of the book
What was most disappointing about Nelson Aldrich’s story?
I was looking for books on the habits of old money, not bragging of old money.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Refund me my listening credits, it was a total waste of my goals.

This made soooo much sense
Revisado: 03-30-17
Would you listen to Ketogenic Diet Do's and Don'ts for Beginners again? Why?
I do all the time actually, helps ingrain what I'm doing with this diet.
What did you like best about this story?
It was a how to start, and how and why to stay focused. The author clearly did well about identifying this as a starter book for this lifestyle and why.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, little snippets, it helps drive the point home. But in one run is totally possible.
Any additional comments?
This teaches you the beginnings of this lifestyle, and how not to sabotage it. I have actually recommended it to others that are struggling with starting this diet.
