Historia
The Body Snatchers is one of Robert Louis Stevenson's most chilling tales. After many years, a chance encounter between two former medical students forces them to recall their sinister past and foul play that was better left buried. Perfect for long winter nights, these stories have been specially selected to create an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. Read by Roy McMillan, with Naxos AudioBooks's trademark of carefully chosen music.

Good stories, poor quality audio
Revisado: 03-10-12
I like these stories - well written is you like historical fiction. The narrationa and audio quality are not good, however and that does take away from it.

Historia
Northanger Abbey certainly contains some elements of 18th century Gothic “potboilers” but with a satiric slant. It has the overbearing father who was “not in the least addicted to locking up his daughters”, although her mother does not die giving birth to her, and the “heroine”, Catherine Morland, prefers playing cricket with her brothers to any girlish pastimes like watering rose bushes or feeding canaries. The book is a hilarious parody and certainly the most lighthearted of Austen's novels.

terrible quality narration
Revisado: 03-10-12
The narrator's voice is good the the quality is terrible. I couldn't finish it. Sounds like she is in an echo chamber - more than you can take so I can't review whole book for you because... I couldn't take it.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: You may have thought the movie was scary, but this is pure Stephen King as it was meant to be experience – performed frighteningly well by Campbell Scott. First published in 1977, The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed.

Excellent Stephen King but...
Revisado: 03-10-12
like most of his books - starts out so engrossing and then tooooooo long and then throw in some weirdo details and then a great finish. I still love his writing but man, can they drag on sometimes but hey, I keep listening. THis is a good listen!

Historia
Here is one of the best historical novels ever written. Lame, stammering Claudius, once a major embarrassment to the imperial family and now emperor of Rome, writes an eyewitness account of the reign of the first four Caesars: the noble Augustus and his cunning wife, Livia; the reptilian Tiberius; the monstrous Caligula; and finally old Claudius himself. Filled with poisonings, betrayal, and shocking excesses, I Claudius is history that rivals the most exciting contemporary fiction.

Good Period Story set in Rome
Revisado: 03-10-12
These are both well written - I,Claudius first and then this one. Great detail, excellent story and narration. My only note is that they are long and sometimes slow and too much story and details and you wish they would get one with it but overall great period piece.

Historia
When a brutal snowstorm shut down all the flights in and out of Chicago, Todd Curry and a few other stranded passengers rented a Jeep to drive the rest of the way to their destinantions. But along a forested, isolated road, they picked up a disoriented man wandering through the snow. His car wouldn't start and his daughter had vanished. Strangest of all were the mysterious slashes cut into the back of his coat, straight down to the flesh....When they arrived in the nearest town it seemed deserted.

Well Read - story too long though
Revisado: 03-10-12
This audio book is very well read. Love the narrator. The story starts out interesting enough but once the main characters are stranded in the town with these creatures that take over their bodies it goes on and on and on and becomes not believable and too fakely dramatic. Didn't enjoy ending as much as beginning.

Good story but what's the point?
Revisado: 12-07-11
This is well narrated. It's a well written story as well but... I just kept thinking while listening to it - what's the point of the story - you know literally - was it worth creating and telling? I'd say know. I don't give it a bad rating because the writing is good but storyline isn't worth listening to. catches you upfront with the midwife being accused of murder but goes along pretty calmly and then ends. just wasn't worth my while!

Just ok
Revisado: 12-04-11
Well, it started out promising and I enjoyed first part very much - 2 great readers btw - but then it dragged on and on with witchcraft group of townswomen - storyline got very predictable and not well written at that point. It's ok, that's all I can say. I like the format in which it is read and like the point of view changing back and forth but story couldn't hold up.

Not as good as 1st one at all!
Revisado: 12-04-11
I disagree with reviewers who think this one is better than first Volume - it's not! I really enjoyed most of the first volume. This one - one story maybe sort of. The readers are first rate! but the stories are not good. Only enjoyed King's attempt at Sherlock Holmes and last story read by King himself about zombies. Rest are not good! Weirdo ideas with endings that make you irritated.

Great Ghost story!
Revisado: 10-21-11
Well, I really enjoyed this Stephen King but... I won't say it's his best. I like others like Misery and Delores Claiborne. This is not of that caliber but it's great. It's interesting, unique and fun. It has an eerie quality to it that I enjoyed very much. Stephen King does an excellent job of reading and he is the one who knows where to place inflection, emotion better than anyone about his books. Really enjoyed it overall!

classic, great narrator, long...
Revisado: 10-07-11
Well, it's a classic. I love this type of story so it appeals to me right up front. This narrator is the best at this type of story. Just only negative is it's so long and somewhats meanders so much that I almost quit out of boredom but then it would pick up again. Descriptions are wonderful - I like listening to it.
