Engrossing and revealing
Revisado: 02-04-25
I thought there were no more stones to turn but this story is a no holds barred look inside Reagan’s comm style/strategy and Nixon’s unvarnished assessment of the political landscape as Reagan ascended and led the nation. KK lands quite a few (valid) punches on a lot of the Reagan staff/advisors/players. A rich voice for KK, Reagan and RN.

Historia
Sixteen hundred years ago Britain left the Roman Empire and swiftly fell into ruin. Grand cities and luxurious villas were deserted and left to crumble, and civil society collapsed into chaos. Into this violent and unstable world came foreign invaders from across the sea, and established themselves as its new masters. The Anglo-Saxons traces the turbulent history of these people across the next six centuries. It explains how their earliest rulers fought relentlessly against each other for glory and supremacy, and then were almost destroyed by the onslaught of the vikings.

Excellent mix of facts, uncertainty & personality
Revisado: 03-18-24
Where the facts are well-established, Marc keeps it real; where less so, he contextualizes the sources be they contemporaneous or historical records from years/centuries later.

Historia
When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side?

No delusion like self-delusion
Revisado: 12-28-23
Excellent psychoanalysis of SBF that paints a depressing picture of his thinking. Hardly any soul to his motivation. All decisions and actions are evaluated using cold probabilities even though labeled “effective altruism” - which is a delusional philosophy. SBF - not an empty suit but empty cargo shorts & Tshirt.

Magisterial treatment of a dark, evil regime

Read it 40 years ago and it still packs a punch with plenty of detail - some more than one might want to know.

Historia
Few American icons provoke more enduring fascination than Charles Lindbergh - renowned for his one-man transatlantic flight in 1927, remembered for the sorrow surrounding the kidnapping and death of his firstborn son in 1932, and reviled by many for his opposition to America's entry into World War II.
