Historia
When Eric Carter helps a friend with a deadly ritual that could determine the fate of the most powerful mage family in Los Angeles he steps into the middle of centuries-long feuds with people who make the Borgias look like the Brady Bunch. Eric's just fine with the murder, soul eaters, and death magic. He's just having trouble adjusting to being brought back from the grave. If he's not careful, somebody's going to put him right back.

huge plot hole that makes the whole story fall apart (from where I am)
Revisado: 07-19-24
ok, I'm liking the story but the issue is the new age language. now before anyone reads the reviews a few things.
1:I just started and haven't completed the book. this plot hole may get filled in later.
2: leave IRL politics out of this. I'm seeing it as is writing no sub writing.
3: this is an issue with me as I don't like major plot holes.
ok that being said here is the issue.
wally is trans, Carter stated. "if you say you are trans the universe accepts you whether other mages do not". I'm paraphrasing. the duel states that men are the only ones allow to fight. ok fair. Amanda said it her self that she can wipe the floor with her cousin. so the plot hole is why doesn't Amanda just say she's a man and fight her cousin to win.
that's major plot hole that cant be overlooked since it will kill the story of so fast.
all in all it's Good so far. if anything changes I will rewrite or delete the review

Historia
As a child, I was nearly killed by a demon, and ever since, the only thing I've cared about is becoming a blood knight. Using the mana inside my blood to protect others from the monsters that plague the world. Eight years I devoted to training, and finally, I was ready to be tested. My blood was measured and assessed, laid bare for all to see. And it was found wanting. I was given the lowest rank possible, just barely meeting the requirements to take the prestigious Sanguine Academy entrance exam. But I aim to prove them wrong.

breath of fresh air
Revisado: 04-12-22
this book is great, the MC is not OP. does not have a secret power. (more or less) does not have a god gift, was not born with greatness. he works his ass off to get just a bit more stronger. it shows. Im tired of all the "born with power" "blessed since birth" "a gift form god" MC. all the characters have depth to them. only a few were caricatures (like 2-3). I can't wait to hear more. for me I always love books that has this goal, "hard work always beats natural talent."

Historia
With the object of his most recent quest stolen out from under him, Rorke has been left for dead in the treacherous Nightlands: a place hateful to all surface-dwellers, full of things the human - even the elfin - eye has never seen. Gray-faced berich dwarves, frightful half-spider misshapens - and, of course, the sensual and dark-complexioned durrow elves, a race of power-hungry women who live in service to the goddess Roserpine.

ehhh no
Revisado: 12-14-21
if you enjoy "submissive" MC then sure this is your book. I only listen to a few chapters, so take my review with a grain of salt. the story had premise but the MC was acting too weak for my taste. he was just caught and already submitted. I understand his honor but still no plan or fight. yes he fought back when he was/did get branded. he also wanted to get punished. no just no. a little bit of femdom is fine for me but this was nope. again if you like submissive male MC, try this book but if you like your MCs' tough and a go getter, dodge this

Historia
When a magical plague is released in a Depression-era New York soup kitchen, private detective Alex Lockerby finds himself in a desperate hunt to catch a madman before he can strike again. His investigations lead Alex to a famous thief, a daring heist, and the search for a mythic book of ancient magic, but none of that brings him any closer to finding the man responsible for the massacre. With the police and New York’s Council of Sorcerers desperate to find the culprit, Alex becomes a suspect himself, thanks to his ties to the priest who ran the soup kitchen.

amazing and love the magic system
Revisado: 06-19-20
story was amazing, I loved that "texted book" was not going to be the next plot line. what I mean is that Alex was not going to be looking for it. I love the "spell breakers" a nice counter to sorcs. I can't wait to see what happens next, I'm going to buy the second book next week and I hope more audiobook are made in the future with Vic.
