Historia
Ancient sages compared the human mind to a monkey: constantly chattering, hopping from branch to branch - endlessly moving from fear to safety. If you are one of the millions of people whose life is affected by anxiety, you are familiar with this process. Unfortunately, you can't switch off the "monkey mind", but you can stop feeding the monkey - or stop rewarding it by avoiding the things you fear.

UNIQUE and very HELPFUL - HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Revisado: 04-24-24
I've had all sorts of varying anxieties for most of my life (I'm 43), and I have read/studied about a lot of different techniques that attempt to address those issues, however this book definitely stands out as being unique in the ways in which she explains what's going on in our mind and why we react the way we do to perceived anxiety-inducing situations.
She dissects why we react to certain situations with anxiety (i.e. a primitive area in the brain appraises situations in a split-second fashion, so our responses are essentially automatic and without conscious thought) and how we allow the anxiety cycle to remain intact (i.e. it's essentially a learned behavior that reinforces itself because it makes us feel as though we dodged a bullet).
My undergrad is in Psychology and I'm currently in grad school for a masters in mental health therapy, I have studied this kind of stuff quite a bit, but this book was more helpful than 90% of the others that I have come across thus far. If you are already familiar with certain approaches, her approach seems to be a combination of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), exposure therapy, and MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction).
Not every approach will work for everyone, but this book definitely explains things in a very user-friendly and helpful way. You might have to go back through things a couple of times to truly understand what she is talking about so you can connect the dots as to why you do what you do and how you keep the vicious cycle intact.

Historia
In addiction, a person with a substance use disorder undergoes a negative change in thinking and behavioral patterns. A person's character is overthrown by addictive thinking: displacement, projection, shame, and hypersensitivity are addiction's survival mechanisms. With Addictive Thinking, both addicts and loved ones familiarize themselves with these addictive signatures and more, and begin the fight for recovery.

Worth the price
Revisado: 03-27-24
If you’re familiar with this topic, there’s nothing earth shattering new here, but I’ve went through a lot of different books on this topic before, and I still found it to be useful. Lots of different information/concepts discussed in somewhat of a rapidfire fashion, no fluff.

Great book, different than the rest
Revisado: 11-01-23
If you're simply looking for pick-up lines this book probably isn't the one for you. But if you can't muster up the strength and courage to make the approach then all those fancy pick-up lines won't matter. And that's where this book is an absolute gem. I have listened to 5-6 others in this general genre and this one clearly stands out among the rest. It takes on a behavioral psychology approach and helps you to learn slowly, allowing you to build up positive habits gradually until those actions essentially become automatic muscle memory through repetition. It is akin to facing a fear slowly (regardless of what the fear is), and this book will help you do that.

Mind-numbing narration
Revisado: 08-31-23
I wanted to like this, I'm usually into this kind of stuff, but I just couldn't, the narration is absolutely mind-numbing, sounds like a robot. Maybe the content begins to get really good, so take my ratings with a grain of salt, because I quit shortly after I started..
Also, not a huge fan of people that promote "find your passion", duh, we all know that, but what if you don't know what your "true passion" is?

Historia
Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

Hilarious, take a break from life end enjoy this
Revisado: 12-17-21
If you're looking for something light-hearted, casual, and downright laugh out loud funny at times, this is definitely worth a listen. The way the narration is done during some of the storytelling - where they act out the scenes with different voices - is a totally new form of entertainment that I have never experienced before.
Loved it.

Achievement often comes at a cost. Angst, restlessness, frayed relationships, exhaustion, and even substance abuse can be the unwanted side effects of an obsession with outward performance. While the high of occasional wins can keep you going for a while, playing into the always-on, never enough hustle culture ultimately takes a serious toll.

This is my first review here on Audible but I thought this book was put together in such a good way that it was worth taking the time out to potentially bring it to other people’s attention.
I was already aware of the vast majority of the concepts presented in this book but I thought the ways in which they were presented enabled them to hit home more so than the others.
Plus the narration was very good. Easy five stars for me.
