Great story, enjoyed listening
Revisado: 09-27-24
I enjoy the books by Slaughter, but it may be because I've been used to the other narrator for her stories, but this narrator just didn't do it for me. I've enjoyed the others much better

Historia
In July 1970, actress Elaina Styles was slain in her rented Seattle mansion along with her husband and their son's nanny. When the baby's remains were found buried in a shallow grave close to a hippie commune, police moved in - only to find all its members already dead in a grisly mass suicide. Now, decades later, a film about the murders is shooting at the mansion. On-set caterer Laurie Trotter ignores gossip that the production is cursed. But then people start dying....

great story line, yet again by this author! he's a new one for me and I've enjoyed each one so far. my only complaint would be the narrators use of voices. I kept ringing that everyone sounded like Vizinni from Pri cess Bride!!! 🤣🤣

excellent story!!! so many twists! amazing!!!
Revisado: 03-05-24
as much as I loved all the different and complicated characters, the narrator just wrecked any voice that was female or young. it was really odd and hard to follow bc the voice felt SO FAST OFF from what I understood the character to be like. for example: all the women were voiced in a way that made them seem like cross dressers, and the young men's voices had an unexessary femininity. I just feel like that part could have been done much better (and it seems I'm far from the only person who felt this way.... check the other reviews)

We live in a close-knit community. Thirty houses surrounding a square of garden that is perfect for our kids. We congregate here on major holidays, each family bringing a plate and sharing food and conversation. It’s in the garden that I first met her. The woman who would worm her way into my family and piece by piece tear it apart.

Interesting/clever, twisted story BUT annoying narration
Revisado: 02-20-24
the story itself was interesting with lots of twists and turns, however it would have been MUCH better had there not been 3 separate narrators. it was challenging to follow, with each person using different voices for other characters, yet none matching at all. it was so aggravating I almost stopped listening.... but considering the story in itself was intriguing (+ the fact I paid a credit to listen to it), I decided to stick it out.

Historia
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Slow starting, but surprising twist at finale!
Revisado: 01-23-24
I probably wouldn't have ever downloaded this dejection had it not been offered on the free books section of audible. Because of that, even though it was slow going at first, I decided to stick it out to see if it got better... and I'm happy I did! lots of emotions and experiences many can relate to (whether they fess up to it or not), including deceptions. This was by far not my most favorite book, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

I've only just discovered this author (started with the house maid), but I'm so impressed with how riveting she pulls her stories along.
the end of the story the me for a tailspin--- I was not expecting it!

my only curious thought it why does she use the name Nina as a main character in both stories? it's not the most common name these days....

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Phenomenal!!
Revisado: 05-19-23
When I first started out listening to King's Fairytale, I wasn't sure if this book was what I wanted/ was expecting. The story takes a short while to gain traction before finally revealing the gem it contains beneath the surface --- but my g•d is it worth listening to until the end!
I am a huge King fan, and despite the subject matter being slightly different than his usual works, it was magnificently written. I felt pulled into this other magical world (Empis)... as if I were traveling alongside Mr. Charlie Reede (sp?)
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for literary adventure full of magical worlds, unforgettable characters, and the reminder that "anything is possible."

Beautifully written story but narrator slips often
Revisado: 08-27-19
I found that after listening to all the books leading up to this one--all narrated by the same gentleman-- it is annoyingly obvious how different the accents are for the characters. In the previous narrated books, they stayed consistent (even though the pronunciation of certain characters and places wavered). Not with this one though....
Maybe the narrator is just getting old.
But the story is amazing... that's a definite.

Historia
Few books have captivated the imagination and won the devotion and praise of readers and critics everywhere as has George R. R. Martin’s monumental epic cycle of high fantasy that began with A Game of Thrones. Now, in A Feast for Crows, Martin delivers the long-awaited fourth book of his landmark series, as a kingdom torn asunder finds itself at last on the brink of peace . . . only to be launched on an even more terrifying course of destruction.

R. R. Martin once again delivers beautifully!
Revisado: 03-21-19
I thoroughly enjoyed the story- especially as it continues to be read by Roy Dotrice. He does a really good job with different character voices...
However, since I have been listening to his audio of this series from the beginning, I noticed that in this book many of the characters voices her used before in the other books were now very different. He also in very inconsistent with pronunciation of various characters names, as well as locations, that previously had been unwavering.
here are the notes I took:
*phonetic spellings the best I could figure*
TER-ell : Tyrell
Ah-sigh-ee : Asshai
Breanne : Brienne
Kay-tlin : Catelyn "Cat-lynn" previously
Jilly : Gilly
Arya"s voice has how switched to the same rough voice from wildling woman in captivity at Winterfell
MY-rish : Moorish
Peter : Petyr "Peh-TY-a"
Tar-GAR-ean : "Tar-GAYR-eun"
If you've listened to the other books so far, you will know what I'm talking about. It just there me for a loop because it had been so consistent before.... and then this book is read and even the pronunciations in THIS one go back and forth. I found it very distracting.
... but overall, an amazing story!!!
