Historia
Pi Patel is an unusual boy. The son of a zookeeper, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love of stories and practices not only his native Hinduism but also Christianity and Islam. When Pi is 16, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship along with their zoo animals bound for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450 pound Bengal tiger.

a bit dry at times
Revisado: 12-29-24
If I hadn't known that it gets more interesting, I probably wouldn't have finished it. The first part of the book has no action and is full of uninteresting exposition. There are small sections of the book throughout that also get fairly boring, but that's just my opinion so maybe someone else might enjoy them. The narrator keeps it interesting, he does a great job doing various voices, especially towards the end.

Historia
Why do so many of us stop learning new skills as adults? Are we afraid to be bad at something? Have we forgotten the sheer pleasure of beginning from the ground up? Inspired by his young daughter’s insatiable curiosity, Tom Vanderbilt embarks on a yearlong quest of learning - purely for the sake of learning. Rapturously singing Spice Girls songs in an amateur choir, losing games of chess to eight-year-olds, and dodging scorpions at a surf camp in Costa Rica, Vanderbilt tackles five main skills, but learns so much more.

an interesting and informative book
Revisado: 11-21-24
The narrator is great! He has a soothing voice. I enjoyed following the author's journey learning new things, and appreciate his honesty. Some of the activities weren't as interesting as others, but the facts and science he brings up throughout the book are helpful to illustrate his point.

Anti-fatness is everywhere. In What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat, Aubrey Gordon unearths the cultural attitudes and social systems that have led to people being denied basic needs because they are fat and calls for social justice movements to be inclusive of plus-sized people’s experiences.

This book was eye opening, infuriating, and heart breaking, but very informative. It's an important contribution towards understanding and dismantling fat phobia and its impact on our society.

Historia
Everyone knows how hard it can be to maintain a healthy diet. But what if some of the decisions we make about what to eat are beyond our control? Is it possible that food is addictive, like drugs or alcohol? And to what extent does the food industry know, or care, about these vulnerabilities? In Hooked, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Michael Moss sets out to answer these questions - and to find the true peril in our food.

interesting information, excellent narration
Revisado: 09-01-24
The narrator helps make a potentially dry subject seem much more interesting. The information is equal parts informative, alarming, and important.

The scientific details could be a bit dry at times, but other than that it's a perfect story! The narrator does an excellent job, and I loved how the story was interspersed with humor so it wasn't just all serious all the time.

Plus, it features exclusive bonus audio of young Neil delivering an adorable speech! That’s audio you won’t hear in any version of this book other than the audiobook!

NPH narrating this is perfect!
Revisado: 05-14-24
I love that Neil narrated this himself. He does amazing voices, and the book is so humorous. He's very down to earth and honest. I was a little surprised about how descriptive he is about some sexual things, but props to him for being comfortable being that open.

When Adam Blake lands the best elective ever in his senior year, serving as an aide to the school psychologist, he thinks he's got it made. Sure, it means a lot of sitting around, which isn't easy for a guy with ADHD, but he can't complain, since he gets to spend the period texting all his friends. Then the doctor asks him to track down the troubled freshman who keeps dodging her, and Adam discovers that the boy is Julian - the foster brother he hasn't seen in five years.

hauntingly sad but touching
Revisado: 04-25-24
This book was hard to listen to at times because of the child abuse and violence, but the story is very well written. I couldn't put it down. I found myself rooting for the main character. The author does a good job of writing characters that show emotion and describing human connection.

this book is absolutely amazing in the way that it addresses trauma and it also features a bisexual really relationship. And I love that the author talks about endometriosis, the narration is great, and it's an added bonus that the author does the narrating herself. But the story itself is also really good, I couldn't stop listening because I wanted to find out what happened. The way it goes back and forth between past and present keeps pulling you in.

Exposing the many lies told on and off the psychoanalyst's couch, Lying on the Couch gives listeners a tantalizing, almost illicit glimpse at what their therapists might really be thinking during their sessions. Fascinating, engrossing, and relentlessly intelligent, it ultimately moves listeners with a denouement of surprising humanity and redemptive faith.

hard to keep up with
Revisado: 03-02-23
It got good towards the end, but I had a hard time sticking it out because the plot was confusing and always jumping around between characters. I also didn't like that it was graphically vulgar at certain parts.
