A man finds himself on the top step of a stepladder; a woman removes the guard to her machine; a worker is not wearing her safety glasses in the plant. Why do these folks do these things? One tendency is to blame workers for safety errors and label their personal failings as the cause. Labeling does not solve the problems. These tendencies build dysfunctional management practices that create fear associated with your safety programs. I want to teach you a better way to analyze behaviors to understand why your employees were put in a position to take the risk in the first place.

Very Good Read For The EHS Professional

Working in EHS I am always looking for other perspectives on how to deal with situations or to improve existing practices. This book has all those qualities with real world examples and practical ideas on how to deal with the individuals that we are trying to protect from harm. While the type of work described in the book differs from what I do, there are still ideas that I have gleaned and can apply to the workforce that I currently work with and oversee.

The safety profession has been stagnant for far too long. Safety folks are abused and misused; they’re often underpaid and overworked; they are undervalued and not appreciated; they find themselves being blamed and shamed when accidents occur; they are torn between the front line and management, they have been forced to knowingly promote flawed, ineffective and disproven safety management systems - to preach from a bible in which they do not believe, and its time for all of that to change.

Have you listened to any of David McCullough’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I have not but would in a heart beat if he were to read more.
Any additional comments?
This is a great listen, my only regret is that David McCullough isn't avalible on more of his works, like John Adams.
If you are a history buff then this one is highly recommended by me. It isn't just a dry work of dates and names. There is some real human emotion related in this work much like "The Killer Angles" did for the Civil War.

Have you listened to any of Becca Battoe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Never have but she did well with what was given to her.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger at the wasted time and disappointment at the credit lost in order to purchase this "book".

Holy Crap. My inner Goddess feels like it is Icarus flying too close to the sun. My subconscious hitches its breath at the thought of the wasted credit used on this “book”.
I was hoping for something more adult, this was not it. The characters seem more like they are playing at being dominate and submissive, when actually it sounds more like a “normal” boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, with some, somewhat kinky sex scenes. He is supposed to be dominating and yet gets pushed around by the submissive?
The use and over use and over use and over use of phrases in this book make it very, very distracting. At first it made me “roll my eyes” and “bite my lip” every time one came up, and then I just started laughing out loud. Like watching an interview with someone who keeps repeating “You know” every other sentence. In the dictionary under Repetitive it says please see Repetitive. If the story line had of been more engaging then I could have possibly over looked these.
I will not be getting any of the others in this trilogy.
