Author more blood thirsty than the Red Witch!

To quote Jules, "FECK" this author is as blood thirty as the Red Witch! The game demands it, and she did not wimp out. Prepare yourself. (I needed tissues and a timeout.)
A 5 star conclusion (book 7 of 7 including Day Zero) to a five star series. Do not read out of order. I prepped for this ARC and review by doing a full series re-listen via Audible. The overarching Arcana Game continues...
In my last review, I called Evie, Jack and Death the most alluring and cataclysmic love triangle ever! OMG, yes! They are still all that and more, because when you add a baby, trauma, love, and TIME- the 'feels' just get so much bigger!
The thing about this addicting series that impresses me most is the clever foreshadowing, little clues, and enigmatic symbols that continue to delight the reader as they unfold. Several times during this series I was absolutely sure I knew what was going to happen next, only to be quite gratified when I was totally wrong. This is why I continue to read and recommend Arcana to anyone who will listen.
My book 7 MVP is The Fool. In the past, I loved to read and reread Matthew's inane and puzzling visions and mumblings! I poured over them trying to figure out what the F* he was trying to tell us. Why does Matthew know best? Missed by Evie, but never forgotten, she finally learns the answer to the big question, "The Empress is my friend?"
Previously, the audio performances by Emme Galvin were perfect, but I only gave 3 stars for this audio performance because I heard the narrator sliding into and out of character voices at the wrong time. Also, she did not continue the same voice she used for Aric the last 5 books. Jack sounded a little off about 50 % of the time. Great narrator, but this story just seemed off.

I love this series, and the narrators are simply fantastic, but this story is a long tale that's setting up future storyline. I struggled to stay awake. it did have a good ending!

really cool story with a lot of layers for a short. I enjoy AI stories and like the world building. great narrator. the only thing I would improve is that this audiobook did not have chapters or breaks, so when I wanted to go back and relisten to a part I was guessing. very frustrating, it was definitely long enough to warrant chapter breaks or tracks every 3 minutes.

What did you like best about this story?
This story is a wonderful portrayal of women- good, bad and ugly. It is charming, clever and endearing. A really lovely story about a time in American history that should be shameful.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
Each narrator was perfectly cast! I have listed to other books read by Bhani Turpin and am beyond impressed by how she turns words into a magical listening experience.
