Historia
Every life reaches that crucial intersection, the place where you must choose your fate, or have it chosen for you. For best-selling author Rich Cohen (The Fish That Ate the Whale, The Last Pirate of New York), it came in a writing workshop senior year in college, when, at 17, he had to knuckle under to a ruthless professor or make a righteous, self-defeating stand.

BORING! BORING! BORING!
Revisado: 06-08-21
Boring! Bunch of words Pretending to be a story. Author was also the Reader -- terrible, pedantic, often conceited with tones of indignation. Seems like purpose of this "piece" is to "vindicate" himself from his college professor's criticism that the author can't write creatively, let alone anything interesting. The author includes his father's efforts to prove the professor wrong, despite the health risks to his father. Bunch of bragging & self-pity martydom (eg., I've published numerous books & worked for the New Yorker "when it was good", . . . therefore I 'must' be a 'good writer').
The professor was right! Pass on this, unless you want to fall asleep . . .

What a WASTE, of time, money.
Revisado: 06-03-21
Spoiler alert: both parts/stories deal with death. Didn't get the point of either story. I Don't understand how this got any positive reviews. Not thought-provoking. Just a feeble attempt to be dramatic -- I get the feeling they wanted to approach death in an "artsy" way. Lots of pauses, scene switching, "you fill in the gaps of what horrific emotions these poor characters had to go through". The "writing" is much worse than the acting, but the acting gets poor grades for being an accomplice to this terrible story-line. Just so angry to have wasted an hour of my life on this garbage. I wish I had used the precious hour of my life on something more creative & interesting. These "writers" names are going on my "Never Again" list.

Historia
This is one of Lovecraft's most beautifully written and frightening stories. It is written from the perspective of a surveyor, who, while surveying a rural area that is to be flooded near the town of Arkham, comes across a mysterious, abandoned farmstead, which is completely devoid of all life. At the center of the farmstead is an old well. The site fills him with an unnatural sense of dread, and, as it turns out, there is good reason for that feeling.

interesting enough but not great

was average. perhaps my expectations were too high & was mildly disappointed when the story didn't deliver as much "thriller/suspense" as I had, for some reason, anticipated.

Historia
Bill Bryson once again proves himself to be an incomparable companion as he guides us through the human body - how it functions, its remarkable ability to heal itself, and (unfortunately) the ways it can fail. Full of extraordinary facts (your body made a million red blood cells since you started reading this) and irresistible Bryson-esque anecdotes, The Body will lead you to a deeper understanding of the miracle that is life in general and you in particular. As Bill Bryson writes, "We pass our existence within this wobble of flesh and yet take it almost entirely for granted."

Bryson delivers, as usual
Revisado: 05-30-21
Bryson is one of my favorite authors. He provides interesting information, usually with a mix of humor and, at times, a self-deprecating manner. Thoroughly enjoyable & informative.

Historia
Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond is the last detective: a genuine gumshoe, committed to door-stopping and deduction rather than fancy computer gadgetry. So when the naked body of a woman is found floating in the weeds in a lake near Bath with no one willing to identify her, no marks, and no murder weapon, his sleuthing abilities are tested to the limit.

Enjoyable, some slow parts but good overall
Revisado: 11-12-20
Good detective story overall, set in modern times (England). Some slow parts here and there. Perhaps a few "that would never happen in real-life" moments near the end, but not so bad to ruin the overall story. Most of the time I looked forward to hearing more.
The narrator was excellent. Did all sorts of different voices and I was not confused as to who was "speaking".

Very Entertaining Suspense Story
Revisado: 10-25-20
Short story of suspense. No gore, no horror -- I wouldn't even call it terror -- just good old-fashioned suspense. Perhaps the mind is playing tricks? Alone with your own-thoughts and your imagination, creates enough suspense to make you feel afraid. Entertaining and short -- provides a satisfying "quick fix" if you desire a good ghost story.

Elderly Woman rambles about death Husband/Child
Revisado: 10-25-20
If you're in the mood for taking a trip down the "Memory Lane" of an elderly woman as she ponders the respective illnesses & deaths of her husband and adult daughter, then this book is for you. I'm in my 50s and am trying to hold onto my own memories, so I don't have the mental storage space to ponder her personal memories of her experience. The book is not terrible, and I'm empathetic to her experience, but frankly, there's nothing really unique to her story, and nothing the reader actually can learn from her story. It's just a description of what she experienced without any really incite.
I wouldn't have bothered with this book if I knew then what I know now about it. Ms. Redgrave gave a good reading of what amounted to a bland story. I don't think I would have finished this short book otherwise.

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson ( Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

Supposed to be funny But NOT
Revisado: 10-12-20
Obviously there was an expectation that there'd be profanity in this "story" -- but it's basically the SAME Refrain Over & OVER, Again & AGAIN in every sentence -- got it, got it. I thought this would be amusing with profanity interspersed with anecdotes about a child resisting sleep at bedtime. Instead the author used the SAME PROFANE PHRASE in the misguided belief that it's repetitious use is somehow funny in and of itself -- It's Not, IT'S NOT. Profanity by itself is not funny -- Profanity in and of itself is Not a Subsitute for Humor, NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR HUMOR . . . if you find the repetition in this review annoying, Don't Get This Book -- because that's all this book is, repetition . . . Repetition of the Same Profrane Phrase (spoiler alert: the Phrase is in the Title -- Yes, THE TITLE).
If the sale proceeds were going to some charitable cause, I wouldn't mind so much. But if they're going to the author and/or performer as compensation, then said compensation is un-deserved . . . correct, they Don't Deserve to be Compensated for such trash, garbage . . . cr*p -- SH*T.

Historia
Whose Boat Is This Boat? Comments That Don’t Help in the Aftermath of a Hurricane is made entirely of quotations from President Donald Trump in the wake of Hurricane Florence. It is the first children's book that demonstrates what not to say after a natural disaster. On September 19, 2018, Donald Trump paid a visit to New Bern, North Carolina, one of the towns ravaged by Hurricane Florence. It was there he showed deep concern for a boat that washed ashore. "At least you got a nice boat out of the deal," said President Trump to hurricane victims.

M Glad Proceeds Go to Hurricane Relief Fund
Revisado: 10-12-20
I was expecting this to be Funny. The concept is funny but the actual results were a let-down. Probably less than 1 min. of the actual comments (which are not in DT's voice, probably for legal reasons) and the comments show DT is clueless and completely lacking in empathy, but remainder of the 5 mins. is music, sound-effects and credits.
Only a Dollar or so, but am glad to hear that 100% of sale proceeds are going to hurricane relief -- otherwise not worth even the dollar.

No point -- good for insomnia
Revisado: 10-11-20
The reviewers who said this was perfect for inducing sleep were correct. I love math and history, so something about the history of math seems like it would be a good fit. But this was really pointless. Too short to talk about the history of math. I think there was a moment that I said, "Oh, that's kind of interesting, I didn't know that" but it was irrelevant trivia that I've already forgotten.
But not a total loser -- I recall fighting off a strong desire to fall asleep during the "listen". Once it finished, I promptly laid down and fell asleep!
So if you want help falling asleep, I highly recommend it. But if you want an interesting story about the history of math, pass on it.
