Historia
Versace. The very name conjures up images of outrageous glamour and bold sexuality, opulence and daring. All of course true, but only half the story. Versace is also the legacy of a great creative genius from a poor, backward part of southern Italy who transformed the fashion world through his intuitive understanding of both women and how a changing culture influenced the way they wanted to dress. House of Versace shows how Gianni Versace, with his flamboyant sister Donatella at his side, combined his virtuosic talent and extraordinary ambition to help create celebrity culture.

Interesting & good narration
Revisado: 03-13-24
Interesting and good narration, if only outdated in 2024. No fault of the author, but it would be great to know what’s been going on since 2010! The narrator brings a solid Italian accent when needed and produced an interesting and enjoyable listen.

Historia
Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to become Southern California’s first giraffes. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow.

Cute, moving story
Revisado: 03-05-24
Overall, it was a cute and moving story. This tail was filled with lots of emotion from the perspective of the main character at the end of his life. The beginning of the book was difficult for me, because the number of characters introduced, felt overwhelming and rushed. over the course of the story, the interactions and events are interesting and this book is worth a read for anybody with a fascination about giraffes or the San Diego zoo. I read this book on a very strong recommendation from a friend. This was not a my favorite book, but others absolutely love it!

Coaching gems in an odd story
Revisado: 02-10-24
Some of the coaching gems were great! Unfortunately, they were embedded into a simplistic story that offered little character development. Something about the overarching story was odd and I couldn’t shake that feeling.

Historia
In 1978, Harvey Milk asked Gilbert Baker to create a unifying symbol for the growing gay rights movement, and on June 25 of that year, Baker's Rainbow Flag debuted at San Francisco's Gay Liberation Day parade. Baker had no idea his creation would become an international emblem of freedom. Rainbow Warrior is Baker's passionate personal chronicle, from a repressive childhood in 1950s Kansas to a harrowing stint in the US Army, and finally his arrival in San Francisco, where he bloomed as both a visual artist and social justice activist.

This extended edition includes a bonus chapter detailing her motherhood journey.

Powerful and reflective
Revisado: 02-01-24
As a millennial, Paris Hilton was a focal point of pop culture in the 2000s. This memoir brings back so many memories and provides perspective that was unknowingly needed. The self reflection, altruism and humility demonstrated throughout this memoir is such a contrast to the greater publics opinions for much of this woman’s life. The authors narration provides the personal touch that really brings this memoir to life.

Historia
Ever since getting sober a few years ago, Allison Hilborn-Tatro has been dedicated to achieving what she calls "radical stability" in her life. She’s up before five each morning and asleep by nine every night. Her days as a family therapist and mother to one good-natured Labradoodle are orchestrated down to the minute, with little room for anything unexpected to barge in and knock her off the wagon. That is, until the death of a neighbor she barely knew leaves her in possession of his two orphaned Shih Tzus.

Cute story
Revisado: 12-15-23
Overall the book was entertaining, especially as a dog owner. The author was relatable for someone stuck in the routine of life who has had to upend things at a moments notice. At times, the focus on the authors dating life seemed too much, as I would have preferred more attention to her life with the dogs. SPOILER: I will say, this is the first book in awhile that has truly brought me to tears, in the best way possible.

Interesting perspective, too preachy
Revisado: 12-15-23
The book started strong with an interesting description of the authors life in New Orleans. Maybe the written book comes across more clear but the audio version carefully seems to tiptoe on the line between a news story and a an autobiographical memoir. While I appreciate the authors opportunity to share his faith, the reoccurring descriptions of his religion came across as preachy and overzealous. The book lacked the self-reflection and evolution of character that I had imagined would be present given the content, and instead was more of a recount of events.

Real Housewives Alternative
Revisado: 11-16-22
As someone that is admittedly not a fan of the “Housewives” shows, I did enjoy this book. The performances of several different women were great, with one in particular being pure gold. Some of the interactions seemed reminiscent of clips from the aforementioned TV series but this book did a nice job delving into each character and building empathy for each. The plot had some fun twists and the story was very detailed yet easy to stay engaged and entertained. Bravo!
