Historia
When a body turns up in the dumpster behind Caroline's Cupcakes, Holly White is horrified to learn her best friend, Caroline, is the main suspect. Everyone in town, including Mistletoe, Maine's sheriff, saw Caroline fighting with the victim on the night of his death. Worse, Caroline's fingerprints are all over the murder weapon, a custom-designed marble rolling pin. Now, just 10 days before Christmas, Holly's up to her jingle bells in holiday shenanigans and in desperate need of a miracle.

Holly doesn’t retain
Revisado: 11-11-24
Ok, so this is only my second book in this series but really, Holly still doesn’t retain the lessons she learned about not taking unnecessary risks and if she does, have some kind of back up. This is supposedly an intelligent, adult woman. I’ll get the third in this series but if she continues to take stupid chances and make stupid decisions, I’ll be done with this series.

They just get better and better
Revisado: 11-08-24
I really enjoy all the characters in this series. Ms. Harris fleshes out their characters throughout every book and we get to know and care about them, just a bit more. None are boring and I absolutely adore all the strong female characters.
Now, we have to wait for the next book, to find out if Lady Devlin is once again correct, about if they will have a girl this time.
It was a twisty mystery and it was a rewarding pay off.

It's National Library Week, and the Athena Public Library is planning an exhibit to honor the centenary of famous novelist Electra Barnes Cartwright - creator of the beloved Veronica Thane series. Charlie has a soft spot for Cartwright's girl detective stories (not to mention an extensive collection of her books!). When the author agrees to make a rare public appearance, the news of her whereabouts goes viral overnight, and series devotees and book collectors converge on Athena.

The narrator
Revisado: 10-25-24
Although Erin Bennett is a good reader, her voicing the male main character, threw me off through the entire book. This male character, who drives the story, always sounds like a she. I thought the story might be interesting but couldn’t get into it due to that fact.
Plus, his name is Charlie and I’ve listened to so many books, where Charlie, is a female’s character and it was too confusing in my brain.

Historia
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

I’m Loving me some Ballard!
Revisado: 10-17-24
I throughly enjoyed this story. It moved fast. Really great hearing Titus and Madison. Christine is always great as Renee. How the story begins, surfing, simple. How the surfing evolves is really interesting. How it changes and rolls around into something completely different, is great.
Not all male authors can write a great female lead character, Michael Connolly writes very strong, believable female lead and supporting characters. They’re not what men think women are like, Connolly writes how women know women are. I’m going to start the Ballard series all over again. She just goes from strong to stronger.

Historia
Victorian London is a cesspool of crime, and Scotland Yard has only 12 detectives - known as “The Murder Squad” - to investigate thousands of murders every month. Created after the Metropolitan Police’s spectacular failure to capture Jack the Ripper, The Murder Squad suffers rampant public contempt. They have failed their citizens. When Walter Day, the squad’s newest hire, is assigned the case of the murdered detective, he finds a strange ally in the Yard’s first forensic pathologist, Dr. Bernard Kingsley.

The characters
Revisado: 10-03-24
Really interesting main and supporting characters. Great story telling. My only complaint is, it could have been shorter. I think because I’m a fan of of this era, the beginnings of Scotland Yard and the whole smoggy, smoky atmosphere of London, the descriptions, down to the barely significant, made it too long, for me, so I skipped about 10 chapters and lost nothing but filler.
It’s still a great story and I’ve already purchased the next book in the series.

A bit confusing but a good mystery
Revisado: 09-14-24
It me took awhile to get into it and it was a bit difficult to keep track of everything but the second half, smoothed things out.
I had given up James Patterson, many years ago because, although I liked his writing, Cross, Bennett and Boxer, they became the same story, book after book.
Authors have their own formula, style, beginning, middle, end but his stories got repetitive, so I gave them up.
I do look forward to the next book in this series.

Flattened
Revisado: 08-31-24
I’d read the other reviews, because of them, put off listening to this book, the last in this amazing series. I must have enjoyed it immensely. I had to wait a while, absorb the ending and think. Such a wonderful series, I’m glad I listened to them, one after the other but I’m flattened by the ending. I enjoy stories that get under my skin, I lived in North and South Carolina, beautiful states, beautiful ocean. So I understood, could feel the ocean, Ellery made me smell the ocean again. It’s a beautiful series, wonderful characters but the ending wiped me out. I don’t like this feeling but it just confirms how she got me invested in each every character. Thank you!

A bit of “edge of your seat”.
Revisado: 07-30-24
It started out pretty tame and then ZOOM!
I always love, how Shelby manages to keep it together, in this one she loses it, but gets back up.
The first part is one, at times, nail biting adventure, the second part was heartbreaking at times.
And what Uncle Joey, makes Shelby do, is the icing on this wonderful story.

The undercurrent
Revisado: 06-19-24
The beginning moves quickly but then it meanders. I sort of knew what Kate was about, so it wasn’t unexpected. But I didn’t figure the mystery out until, closer to the end. It was a good story and a great beginning for a new series. I’m quite looking forward to the next.
