Sad & Depressing
Revisado: 04-30-25
I caught Book 1 on sale and although it wasn't great I though the series had promise so I tried Forgotten Lives. Unfortunately this one was even more maudlin than the first. The protagonist , DCI Frank Black, is a mess physically, mentally, and emotionally, and he isn't going to change regardless plus the plot revolves around multiple child abuse cases. After awhile it gets too sad and depressing where I didn't want to read anymore. Not for me!

A Good Start
Revisado: 04-10-25
This is a good start to the new D.I. Duncan McAdams series about a man coming home and coming to grips about his upbringing and family. The narrator is excellent, and the mystery hold your interest till the end.

Battle Cry of Freedom vividly traces how a new nation was forged when a war both sides were sure would amount to little dragged for four years and cost more American lives than all other wars combined. Narrator Jonathan Davis powerful reading brings to life the many voices of the Civil War.

Excellent!
Revisado: 03-20-25
A lot of reviewers have rated Battle Cry of Freedom as the best one volumn history of the Civil War, bar none. I found this an interesting, unbiased account of the most turbulent period in US history.

It Is All Downhill
Revisado: 12-27-24
This book is another step downhill in plot and liability. It is over the top gruesome, even for this series, and all of the main protagonists seem to be angry with each other and the world all the time. This is the only book in the series so far that I have fast-forwarded thru large chunks.

Historia
Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

Characters You Care About
Revisado: 05-04-24
Another good Kay Scarpetta mystery with characters you can care about. But wouldn't it be nice if government really cared about justice as much as Dr Scarpetta and some of her colleagues do.

Not My Favorite, but a Pleasant Series
Revisado: 04-05-24
County Cork Mysteries is an enjoyable series with a good atmosphere and likable characters, but the actual mystery is very simple. But the interesting characters and the ambience of Ireland make up for the shortcomings.

Unbelievable
Revisado: 10-16-23
The female narrator was really good and did most of the book. The male narrator was fine. I just didn't think his voice fit the part. Unfortunately the plot was full of holes and totally unbelievable. Based on high number of 4 and 5 star reviews a lot of people disagree, see for yourself. It is free with Audible Plus.

Twist Upon Twist
Revisado: 05-26-23
I found the 1st half to two-thirds of the novel to be an interesting straightforward who-done-it, then it gets weird but still enjoyable. The narrator does an excellent job and added to the story. This may not be for everyone. I was suspect to start with.
