Historia
Carnivore Cure is the first elimination protocol to explain how to adopt a meat-based diet to bring about healing. Get back to optimal health by finding the perfect foods to fuel your individual body. Most elimination diets work to an extent, but fail to consider all the individual, physical symptoms, and food sensitivities. Most elimination diets remove processed foods and additives, but fail to remove plant-based toxins that can contribute to disease. Until now. Introducing Carnivore Cure.

Too much irrelevant detail
Revisado: 11-18-24
I’m looking for a solution, not a thesis.
She overcompensated for her lack of formal nutrition training by over-explaining things that don’t matter to the reader being able to execute a plan.
If she’d spent as much time on describing the diet as she did in explaining the details of our digestive systems I might have been able to derive some benefit.

Historia
Recently engaged and deeply ensconced in her third year of surgical residency in Chicago, Emily Hartford gets a shock when she is called home to Freeport, Michigan, the small town she fled a decade ago after the death of her mother. Her estranged father, the local medical examiner, has had a massive heart attack. At the hospital, she finds her father in near total denial of the seriousness of his condition. He insists that the best thing Emily can do to help him is to take on the autopsy of a senator's teen daughter whose sudden, unexplained death has just rocked the sleepy town.

Decent story wrapped around a weak female character
Revisado: 04-08-22
… and riddled with virtue signaling from the author.
Drinking game suggestion: take a drink every time Emily gets into her “Leaf” instead of “her car”.
Who besides Emily’s dad is still watching CNN except for giggles?
How many times can you want to smack a character and still be sympathetic?
Don’t want to talk to the press? Walk away.
Don’t want your mother-in-law pirating your wedding? Sprout a backbone and take charge.
By the end of the book I was ambivalent about the choking scene and the only thing keeping me engaged was resolving her mother’s death.
… and the book ended.

Delightful new (to me) series
Revisado: 10-06-21
I'm ashamed that I was hesitant to buy this first book in this series because I let myself be swayed by the rabid caterwallings of the faux literati. I swear there are some really petty souls in this world that managed to find something to niggle about in this book.
Acceptably cryptic. Pleasantly paced romantic development. Engaging dialog. A heroine that is appreciated for her skills and valued instead of having to ENDLESSLY fight against being dismissed (get over it already, we get it, some men are dumb).
Loved this first selection and will probably wind up working my way through the entire series.
Take that, haters.

Historia
For the Sake of the Game is the latest volume in the award-winning series from New York Times best-selling editors Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger, with stories of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and friends in a variety of eras and forms. King and Klinger have a simple formula: Ask some of the world's greatest writers-regardless of genre - to be inspired by the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle. The results are surprising and joyous.

A Mixed Bag
Revisado: 12-06-20
The stories ranged from "Gee I wish this author would do a series!" to "Grab the pitchforks and torches boys, we got work to do...".
Apparently "Stories Inspired by the Sherlock Holmes Canon" means "somewhere in the story the words 'Sherlock Holmes' appear". A couple of these SO abused the premise that they reached the level of "irksome"... However a couple of them were so stylistically and thematically divergent from what any reasonable human being would characterize as 'the Sherlock Holmes Canon" that they attained the lofty heights of "loathsome".
However, I guess that is to be expected from a collection edited by Laurie R. King, considering how (in my opinion) she has (very profitably) mangled the Holmes canon. There is apparently a very lucrative market for canon's that have been tossed under a train and crushed beyond recognition.

Historia
Inspector Treadles, Charlotte Holmes’ friend and collaborator, has been found locked in a room with two dead men, both of whom worked with his wife at the great manufacturing enterprise she has recently inherited. Rumors fly. Had Inspector Treadles killed the men because they had opposed his wife’s initiatives at every turn? Had he killed in a fit of jealous rage because he suspected Mrs. Treadles of harboring deeper feelings for one of the men? To make matters worse, he refuses to speak on his own behalf, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

Love the series ... but...
Revisado: 10-15-20
It is my sincerest hope that the author will resist the urge to become ever more self-indulgent in virtue signaling as the series progresses.
I come to my Audible haven to ESCAPE revisionist history and lunatic social justice warriors. I’ve opted out of most movies and television because they have just become unwatchable with their preening self-righteousness and I’d hate to have to do the same with my favorite novel series as well.
Tell a good story.
Entertain.

Truly Astounding Talent
Revisado: 10-04-20
I've blown through all four of the first four volumes of this series in a couple of weeks and have pre-ordered volume 5.
Sherry Thomas has done THE best job of emulating ACD's style I've ever read while making the story her own.
The way she has distributed the skillset that made Holmes Holmes across a fascinating universe of characters and then drawn me in to passionately CARE about them is truly humbling to a wish-I'd-been writer.
The complexity of the plot-lines and the number of moving parts that she fits together into a compelling tale and a satisfying resolution at the end amazes me.
THIS is the kind of writer that makes wading through all of the others worth it.
I plan on enjoying the whole series many more times, Lord willing.
Thank you Ms Thomas.
