Historia
It all starts on New Year's Eve. A night that has to be a success, whatever the cost. For Joni and her friends, it'll be a party that promises all the high stakes and glamour of any other, but by sunrise, they'll be dealing with something darker than the usual post-party comedown. Not that they let this stand in their way. For this is their year to revel in all that the playground of London has to offer: sneaking into places they shouldn't, breaking every rule, falling in love with the wrong people. All the while avoiding one undeniable truth: it's not if the party ends, it's how.

Nell Hudson has a beautiful way with words in this well-written debut novel. A story of gorgeous, shiny people in dark places.
Revisado: 07-20-24
The language in the book is simply beautiful, at times utterly poetic.
If you’re listening to the Audible version, the performance is wonderful and the writer’s acting skills shine through.
There were times in the book when I found myself frustrated by the personality of the main character, her selfishness and ennui, but I believe that it was intentional and certainly worked to bring an immediacy and authenticity to the character.
Warning: drug use is treated very casually: it’s just a given in the social circles the character and her friends move in, and that could be disturbing to some.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

A Heavy, but important read.
Revisado: 02-06-24
If you have any doubts about whether the United States is constructed around a Caste system, this book will remove those with its incredibly meticulous facts and examples. This is a difficult read, but nevertheless fascinating and so well-written.
It’s tempting to slip into despair that things can ever change, but as the author states, a house can’t be repaired if the foundation is never checked and the cracks just ignored. While we didn’t create the system, we inherited it and it is our responsibility to be the stewards of the country and planet that we’ve been handed.
This is an important book that should honestly be required reading in our schools, though the very structures of the Caste system will certainly make sure that never happens. That leaves it to us to educate ourselves and determine to become actively anti-caste and anti-racist.
I am hopeful that enough people will have the courage of those convictions to carry us forward toward the human potential that each individual has within themselves, when given opportunities.

I’d listened to the first book in Signe Pike’s series and loved it.
This second novel did not disappoint.
Very nice addition of 2 more voice actors and it truly captures the shifting perspectives in a wonderful way.
Can’t wait for her third book to be released. I will definitely purchase the audio version!
