I was Bamboozled by the title and am so glad my mom made me listen to this book!

I am in a transitional phase where I am preparing to leave a comfortable situation to step fully I to my purpose and it is making my entire family nervous. More than anyone, my mom is the most nervous. She has been trying to bargain with me, change my mind and projecting fear every time we talk - then all of the sudden she stopped and had an abounding sense of peace. What happened?

This book was recommended to her after she finished both Cicely Tyson and Viola Davis's memoirs. The first time she scoffed at this blasphemic girl calling Jesus a bamboozler, the 2nd time she questioned why audible kept recommending this book and by the 3rd time when she read the description she figured it was worth a listen. In the evening it took for her to finish this book her worry dicipated and she was recommending it to everyone in the family.

I admittedly have trouble separating Molly from Yvonne - so I initially ignored the book thinking it was going to be a Molly-eque whining session or maybe some relationship book. My bad for forgetting that Yvonne is a mature, wise woman and just plays Insecure on TV. I knew every Bible story and reference in this book but felt like I was hearing them for the first time. It was comforting and confidence building and I recommend everyone read this book - especially if you find yourself in a rut and wondering how to get out.

Thank you for your openness, your humor and your words of encouragement laced with calls to action!

Listening to this book was mostly hearing a bunch kf common sense information summarized in a straightforward fashion, but you cannot underestimate how useful that is. I think that we look to advice to be profound and earth changing, but it can be more helpful to hear "you are not alone and this will be ok." and This book was that for expecting fathers, which is appreciated because I am incredibly nervous about having my first baby.

This was wonderful authentic advice and a great gift for any couple, especially married couples. Not every decision they made in their marriage will be right for your relationship, BUT the fact that they clearly break down the process makes the information applicable to everyone.

It also was some good parenting advice that I appreciate as I am expecting my first child.

This is a great and encouraging read for people of all ages. It is easy to follow, but has some profound messaging. I would recommend this for anyone and will be buying several copies as "stocking stuffers" for some of the students and young professionals in my lfie.

I have been told to read the Invisible Man for half of my life, but nodody ever really told me what it was about. So I did not know what to expect. The Prologue threw me off and the story unfolds slowly, but it was well worth it to get to the end and the Epilogue. I admittedly am more of a nonfiction reader which makes me less receptive to the flower descriptions, but the messaging that unfolds in the latter half of the story is exceptionally thought provoking.

I would also add that Joe Morton does an extraordinary job of making the text leap off the page with his voices. It makes it far easier to follow the rapid exchange of dialog and overall improves the story. I could not have envisioned a better way to be introduced to the text.

Not a fan of Karl Rove, but I enjoyed this book

Karl Rove gives you a blow by blow and step by step explanation of how he accomplished monumental achievements in politics. Whether you think that was monumentally good or you, like me, think they leaned towards monumentally... less than great, you can appreciate the passion and conviction he has demonstrated for his believes.

Of course the book has a strong bias and paints himself and the Bush presidency in the best possible light. He also cannot help but take time to engage in kind of petty call outs of political acquaintances and opponents. BUT, unlike most others engaging in this type of writing he is actually willing to present a more balanced perspective. He talks about failures and shortcomings in a way that elevates the text beyond simple propaganda.

Not his slow cadence and frequent pauses makes it almost a necessity that you listen to the text at 1.85-2.00
x speed or else it becomes unbearable. All and all a worthwhile listen if you want to hear about these historic events from first hand accounts.

This is not something that will give you any great insight, but it is still one of those books that you want to say you read. It was a lot easier following the text via audible than reading it, because the reading had an odd cadence that seems to jump from subject to subject abruptly. This book was a bucket list book for me, and I enjoyed the audible version.

More propaganda than informative

Revisado: 10-04-21

The authors slow southern cadence makes it a must to listen to this book at 1.5-2.5 speed. But the author's personality comes thru with with this performance. They clearly convey their feelings about the material thru passion and sarcasm, which makes it more interesting to listen to.

As far as the text. It is poorly reasoned and the arguments are not well constructed. It is more of a propaganda piece than a balanced interpretation of facts.

The text seems to be in response to a call for "progressive socialists" from an organization with only a couple thousand people locally and 30k people nationally. It in a state with 26-30 million people, it hardly seems like the group was worth the attention this books gives them.

The book seemed more fixated on making snide jabs at California and New York, than actually examing the shift in Texas's politics or deeply exploring the states history in any type of thoughtful way. Yes the author quotes people and stats, but this is done on a rudimentary level. He draws causal links where none exists, and ignores major factors that have contributed to the success and failures of ideas. He also misquotes and mis-states the position of numerous historic figures (e.g. he equated Lincoln saying that slavery was tyranny to Lincoln believing that socialism was tyranny)

All and all, this is not a well reasoned or well thought out articulation of conservative principles, but it is entertaining enough if you can shut off your brain enough to ignore the logical flaws.

This was well put together and well performed. My only complaint us that Abrams is far to gracious in making sure to include the perspectives and stories of other people and doesn't give the reader as much about herself as people may want. Nevertheless, a good read.
