Historia
Hailey MacIntyre seems conjured from the depths of Samuel Fiddes’s loneliness. Caring for his young sister in the tenements of Glasgow, Scotland, Samuel has known only hunger, while Hailey has never known want. Yet, when Samuel saves Hailey’s brother from a runaway carriage, their connection is undeniable. Through secret meetings and stolen moments, their improbable love grows. But then the City of Glasgow Bank fails, and Hailey’s bankrupt father impulsively moves their family across the globe to Seattle.

Predictable, but enjoyable
Revisado: 02-16-25
If a couple falls in love in the first chapter, many twists and turns before a happy ending, are ro be expected. Historical setting made it interesting. The people of Seattle complained that they found the Scottish accent difficult. So did I. Dialpgue in relevant accent is fine, but a whole book!

She never dreamed her new chapter would involve befriending Sarah, a fourteen-year-old on the run from her father and reeling from her mother’s sudden and suspicious death. While Sarah’s grandmother scrambles to get custody, Faith is charged with spiriting the girl away on a journey that will restore her hope: Sarah implores Faith to take her to Falkner’s Midnight Sun, the prized black mare that her father sold out from under her.

Heartvwarming enjoyable book
Revisado: 01-28-25
There is something wholesome and gentle about this writer's style and subject matter. There are bad people and sad times, but goodness and love triumph in a realistic manner. Her character development is excellent and especially children are depicted in a way that leaves the listener wanting to keep on staying en their lives.

Historia
Mariners Island is barely ten miles long, but when Ivy, Ariana and Cam were teenagers, it was their whole world. Beyond the pristine beaches and iconic lighthouse lies the beautiful old library that belongs to Ivy’s family. While that bound Ivy to the island as an adult, Ariana could not leave Mariners behind fast enough. The town holds too many…memories. Not only her unrequited feelings for Cam, but the tragedy that left a scar on the community. When a young girl went missing, a teenage Cam was unthinkably the prime suspect.

Nonsensical title
Revisado: 04-20-24
I finished the book hoping to discover the significance of the lbrary, but didn't. What was also disappointing was the length of time it took to unravel a plot, which had soon become predictable. The performer's pronounced American accent was too much for my non - American ears. Pronouncing "her"to rhyme with "purr" and "said" with two syllables, became grating in a book that had too much inane dialogue anyway.

Historia
Angus and Hugh MacNaughton are brothers. They dislike each other...a lot. They have loathed each other since Hugh bit Angus at a family picnic many years ago. In a last-ditch attempt to forge a brotherly bond between the two, Mr. and Mrs. MacNaughton secure them jobs at an exclusive five-star game lodge. They manage to convince (bribe in the case of Angus) the siblings to work at Sasekile Private Game Lodge for a year.

A trip in the wild
Revisado: 01-13-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful, quirky, humorous book. The characters were established with only a few words and their development poignant. Having stayed at such a lodge heightened the pleasure this book provided. The performance was excellent. Two negatives: the stereotyping of Afrikaans speakers as louts and the e- mail format of the narrative did not appeal to me.

While I certainly enjoyed the book, it did leave me a little unsatisfied. As though it was building up to something that never happened and there were a few loose threads still wondering around in the desert.
When listening to a book it is often difficult if it skips from the thoughts of one character to another one between different eras. After all you can't hear spaces or italics. This performer managed to take you effortlessly with her between people and times with just with the use of her voice.

Women
Revisado: 08-01-23
Though I did enjoy the book, there were some niggles. Problems that were presented as unsurmountable, were surprisingley easily solved at the end. Yet I found it unsatisfactory. The book was generally well read, but the Willow voice was so breathless and wispy, even for a "pixie", as to be irritating, especially as I had to adjust the volume each time it was her turn.

Emotional Masterpiece
Revisado: 04-12-23
I enjoyed every moment of the story, although, as a South African, it spoke to my conscience. The author mainly avoided stereo types, so often found in books on this subject. Perhaps the nature descriptions, crucial to the content, were too long and detracted from the pace of the book. The narrator disappointed however. She never managed the South African accent, in fact the Scottish matron had the best SA accent. The few Afrikaans words used, were sadly mispronounced.

Accents
Revisado: 01-13-22
Once again a good story has been marred by narration. The contempory story was well done, but Kitty's whole tale was read in an accenr. Surely after so many complaints reggarding this, artists should start to realise that listeners find this extremely irritating and that ACCENTS SHOULD BE LIMITED TO DIALOGUE.
