Historia
Alex Cross is back - and so is a raging and suicidal Gary Soneji. Out of prison and dying from the AIDS virus he contracted there, he will get revenge on Cross before he dies. In addition, we are introduced to a new pair of rivals whose paths cross that of Alex and Soneji. Thomas Augustine Pierce has been chasing his demon, Mr. Smith, since the savage murder of his fiancée. Mr. Smith is a unique monster, with actions toward his victims so insane - so unimaginable - that he is thought of as "not of the Earth".

Narrator is awful
Revisado: 03-18-24
Just can't listen to this book. The narration is horrible. Wish I could get my credit back!

Amazing, amazing, amazing!
Revisado: 07-21-21
I love everything about this book. I tried to read it when I was younger, couldn't get through it. Neither could I sit through the movies. Maybe because I am older and have grown through my life experiences, I love everything about this book and Maggie Gyllenhaal's narration of it. I love the simple way in which she reads it without trying to sound like an actor. I love the way Tolstoy paints the story, his detailed description of feelings, scenery, and the morals of the time, how he compares religion with spirituality, compassion and punishment, mother and daughter, husband and lover. Yes, this is a long book but the dance is worth it. It is life in a different era. And the horse race!

Historia
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is Perfect

Would you consider the audio edition of The Bell Jar to be better than the print version?
I read The Bell Jar years ago as I am a big fan of Sylvia Plath. Having Maggie Gyllenhaal brought the book to life for me. I could not stop listening to her.
