Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

This sprawling and often brutal novel, set in the rich farmlands of California's Salinas Valley, follows the intertwined destinies of two families - the Trasks and the Hamiltons - whose generations helplessly reenact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel.

Phenomenal performance by the narrator. Steinbeck wove the stories of the Hamiltons and the Trasks so well. Beautiful book with comfort, sorrow, growth and introspection. 10/10

Not Butler's Best work
Revisado: 05-12-23
Octavia Butler knows how to craft a story that leaves you feeling the unbelievable pain that the characters endure. Kindred is no exception. Butler depicts the gruesome aspects of slavery very well, showing how even the strongest people would submit to the relentless attacks of their owners.
Overall I felt that the story wasn't fully fleshed out. It just felt like it was lacking another dimension that would've satisfied the questions I had. It's purely my opinion though. I'm glad to see others enjoyed it more. Octavia Butler is my favorite author ever, but this simply wasn't one I enjoyed as much
I did think Staunton did a FANTASTIC job with the narration. Her voices were amazing! Overall, if you like historical fiction as a young adult or a teenager, it would be worth a listen :)
