Historia
Capitalism didn’t fail, it was ruined. What went wrong with capitalism? Ruchir Sharma’s account is not like any you will have heard before. He says progressives are right, in part, when they mock modern capitalism as “socialism for the rich.” For a century, governments have expanded in just about every measurable dimension, from spending to regulation and the scale of financial rescues when the economy wobbles. The result is expensive state guarantees for everyone—bailouts for the rich, entitlements for the middle class, welfare for the poor.

Great synthesis for those who are interested in economics
Revisado: 07-06-24
The author is apolitical and favors pragmatic solutions with a balanced approach. His objectivity coupled with historical observations provides a compelling path our nation must achieve in order to survive. He’s not supporting extreme; rather he believes government must respond to needy citizens but not via bloviated governments that destroy competition and innovation. His is a healthy vision that we can only hope guides our nation’s leaders. We are at a critical juncture- Sharma has a balanced vision we need to respect and apply.

Glib and disrespectful
Revisado: 10-14-20
Not a hint of maturity or personal reflection. It’s war story after war story with John Wayne simplistic and imaginative narrative. His humor is smart ass and reflects the value system of an adolescent thug wannabe. This is the antithesis of Karl Marlantes.

Historia
In this unflinching exploration of corruption in America, Chayes exposes how corruption has thrived within our borders - from the titans of America's Gilded Age (Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, et al.) to the collapse of the stock market in 1929, the Great Depression, and FDR's New Deal; from Joe Kennedy's years of banking, bootlegging, machine politics, and pursuit of infinite wealth to the deregulation of the Reagan Revolution - undermining this nation's proud middle class and union members.

Profoundly ambitious and genuine yet...
Revisado: 08-16-20
I was impressed by many of her reviews, insights and clear description of the core problem. On the one hand she paints a a race to the bottom and then sets forth sweeping recommendations and gestures that sound idealistic and unrealistic. Perhaps the best contribution of her work is adding some insights as to why we’ve slid so far and so fast, here and internationally. For that alone I’m pleased to have read her work.

One Mission Remains
Revisado: 09-22-19
Call Sign Chaos is a roadmap for enlightened leadership, deep thinking and humanitarian values. ‘Mad Dog’ is a brilliant writer whose devotion to this country is real, not jingoistic, scapegoating or arrogant. He admits mistakes, believes in alliances, and stands for everything our current President lacks. He’s too dignified to attack his Commander in Chief but it is clear he is appalled. This might sound bold but I’m hoping the Democratic nominee considers him for VP. His call for unity, problem solving, integrity and synthesis is the Call Sign we so desperately need.

Historia
She Has Her Mother's Laugh presents a profoundly original perspective on what we pass along from generation to generation. Charles Darwin played a crucial part in turning heredity into a scientific question, and yet he failed spectacularly to answer it. The birth of genetics in the early 1900s seemed to do precisely that. Gradually, people translated their old notions about heredity into a language of genes. We need a new definition of what heredity is and, through Carl Zimmer's lucid exposition and storytelling, this resounding tour de force delivers it.

What are the elementary ingredients of the world? Do time and space exist? And what exactly is reality? Theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli has spent his life exploring these questions. He tells us how our understanding of reality has changed over the centuries and how physicists think about the structure of the Universe today.

Revisado: 07-12-16
Health, behavior, history, science, ethics and complexities of multiple factors make this a book deeply respectful of who we are and where we are headed. Health, behavior and biology brought into an eye opening synthesis. As a mental health professional I would recommend this book as a foundation in building skills, accounting for context, multiple variants and thinking that transcends reductionism and over simplification. Great book.
