Historia
In 20 years of show business, Lucille Ball had only modest and sporadic success. Her TV program, I Love Lucy, was her last chance to fulfill the ambition that had sustained her through the frustrations of her professional life and the anguish of a failing marriage. The role of Lucy Ricardo revealed her true gifts, but it changed her life immeasurably. This definitive portrait of Lucille Ball is based on the recollections of fellow performers, her closest friends and family, and Lucille herself.

Thorough study with perfect narrator.

I really enjoyed this book. She was a real person, very strong really who was surprisingly unhappy. Not miserable, just unhappy. She got totally ripped off but what was dealt to her and one can only wonder what might have happened had her husband been a real husband.

Historia
Here is the first full-length biography of a much maligned but astonishingly colourful Queen of England. In Newgate Street, in the city of London, stand the meagre ruins of Christ Church. On the same site once stood a royal mausoleum set to rival Westminster Abbey in the 14th century. Among the many crowned heads buried there was Isabella of France, Edward II's queen - one of the most notorious femme fatales in history. But how did she acquire her evil reputation? And is it justified?

Loved it.
Revisado: 03-23-10
I am really glad that I bought this book before reading the reviews -- because if I had not, I may not have. So it's important to remember that a review is always going to be subjective.
That said, I loved it and found it really, really interesting. And I happen to really like Alison Weir's voice and accent, which helped.
It's worth it to find out.

Historia
When she was 18 years old, Carolyn Jessop was coerced into an arranged marriage with a total stranger - a man 32 years her senior. Merril Jessop already had three wives. But arranged plural marriages were an integral part of Carolyn's heritage: She was born into and raised in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), the radical offshoot of the Mormon Church.

Excellent, but sad tale.
Revisado: 03-23-10
I really enjoyed this book. Like so many others, I probably would not have found it had the church not been in the news. And as I said in another review, the Bible teaches us that polygamy never ends well -- for anyone.
I admire Carolyn. She seems like the kind of person who would be a good friend to have. I wish her all the best.

Historia
Once again, David Sedaris brings together a collection of essays so uproariously funny and profoundly moving that his legions of fans will fall for him all over again. He tests the limits of love when Hugh lances a boil from his backside, and pushes the boundaries of laziness when, finding the water shut off in his house in Normandy, he looks to the water in a vase of fresh cut flowers to fill the coffee machine.

Quirky and fun.
Revisado: 03-23-10
This isn't David Sedaris' best, but then again, it would be hard to top the others. Then again (again), maybe it's me. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for quirky. It's worth the time and money though.

Another really good Bragg Book.
Revisado: 03-23-10
I've always liked Rick Bragg's work and this one doesn't disappoint. So he was a little late in growing up -- at least he's one of the few who do! Loved it (though Ava's Man will ALWAYS be my favorite).
Can't wait for another one.
