Super nasal narrator. Hard to listen to.
Revisado: 01-01-21
Story was good, possibly too many characters, but the narrator is so nasal that getting thru the book was hard. when the next book comes out, if same narrator, I will pass.

Historia
When Elizabeth Keane returns to Ireland after her mother’s death, she’s focused only on saying goodbye to that dark and dismal part of her life. Her childhood home is packed solid with useless junk, her mother’s presence already fading. But within this mess, she discovers a small stash of letters — and ultimately, the truth. Forty years earlier, a young woman stumbles from a remote stone house, the night quiet except for the constant wind that encircles her as she hurries deeper into the darkness away from the cliffs and the sea.

Fifteen years after those catastrophic events, Kate is still haunted by the unquiet ghosts of her troubled past. Now a lecturer at a small coastal English university, she finally has a chance to face them.

Great from start to finish!
Revisado: 03-14-20
I am not usually a fan of mystery/thrillers with a female as the lead character because they are usually written too chatty and helpless. This first book of the Kate Marshall series was excellent and I will be on to the Book 2 right away.

So glad to see all of the old characters from the DC Smith series as well as the clever turns and twists that will allow the continuing growth of all involved. This was a very pleasant surprise to find that the DC Smith series will go on but in a bit different direction, but still so well written and well narrated!

Historia
He is our best hope. He is our last hope. He is our only hope. On a lonely moor in northern England, the body of a young woman is discovered. In the south, a girl lies buried beneath a Saxon mound. To the southeast, the ruins of a priory hide a human skull. Each is a sacrifice, a summons. And something in the darkness has heard the call. Charlie Parker has also heard it, and from the forests of Maine to the deserts of the Mexican border, from the canals of Amsterdam to the streets of London, he will track those who would cast the world into darkness.

Convoluted and disappointing!
Revisado: 02-24-20
Love the Charlie Parker series, but this book went way off track with way too many characters, too many stories criss crossing countries, just too much of everything. I lost interest in it about halfway thru but continued because I want to keep track of Angel and Louie. Enough with all the mystical stuff taking over so much of every story!

Scott Brick mangles every story he narrates
Revisado: 02-09-20
Great concept for a book and series, I was thrilled to find the prequel and equally irritated that scott Brick is the narrator. He is monotone and boring and I avoid evry bookhe narrates...but I got this one because of the unique concept. I am enjoying the story, but have to fight thru the monotone Brick. George Guidall, Steven Weber, Simon Vance, Edwardo Baallerinie...and so many others could have been tapped for this series and I am afraid that I will have to avoid all of the rest of the Quinn books because Brick is the narrator. The only upside is that Brick does put you to sleep.

A bit too much inside his own head in this one...
Revisado: 07-22-19
Love this series, but this book kept Nathan Cody inside his own head a bit too much which made it tedious in some places in the story. The clown saga continues which is good and creepy and will continue into the next book, it seems.
