I thought that the detective crime aspect was pretty good here. not great, but engaging enough. where this book really let me down was with the personal relationship aspect. it was one of those stories where the character is acting so unaccountably stupid that you just want to throw up your hands and walk away. I finished the book just to find out what happened, but the personal relationship side left me baffled and irritated.

Fun basic premise and some decent science in space, but I got pretty tired of this book. It was some of the writing, which did things like rely too heavily on people repeatedly thinking coming dangers are just a practical joke or on those in power behaving incredibly stupidly as plot obstacles. Something like the Expanse series or The Muderbot series makes this kind of writing hard to tolerate.

this is now one of my top 10 favorite books. it is an exciting story, it raises interesting questions and issues, and it portrays the science and technology in very believable and sophisticated ways. I also thought the reading of it was flawless. looking forward to the next one.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. engaging story and characters that were well performed. It takes place in an interesting post apocalyptic setting, and the native American context is interesting and handled adeptly I think. I hope there is another book coming along follow this one.

This is an excellent story that is very well read by Wil Wheaton. There are few things with the story that I would change in terms of additions. However, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and would recommend it highly.

I enjoyed this book. There are improvements I'd suggest, but I enjoyed the listen and would consider work by this author and / reader again.

like the premise, like the approach mostly, but I had to quit this one after a few hours. just did not engage me. life's too short.

Any additional comments?

There were things to like about this book for me, but I stopped listening in book 2. The story began to feel like endless lists of stockpiling supplies with occasional bouts of interesting violence. The inter-personal tensions helped some, but not enough. Also, RC Bray was awesome in performing The Martian and Infinite, but here he sounds like Clint Eastwood at his least-inflected doing an English accent through clenched teeth. It's the same gritty tough-guy speak the entire time.
