Historia
North Korea is isolated and hungry, bankrupt and belligerent. It is also armed with nuclear weapons. Between 150,000 and 200,000 people are being held in its political prison camps, which have existed twice as long as Stalin’s Soviet gulags and twelve times as long as the Nazi concentration camps. Very few born and raised in these camps have escaped - but Shin Dong-hyuk did.

Horrific but hopeful.

Would you listen to Escape from Camp 14 again? Why?
I would--there's so much information of the current North Korea that I know I missed pertinent information.
What didn’t you like about Blaine Harden’s performance?
It seemed like at random times, a different voice was dubbed in. It made it distracting while listening.
Any additional comments?
I would highly recommend for everyone to check out LINK, the human rights organization that was mentioned in the book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely--this book not only gave a historical context of China in times of uprise, but it gave me a new insight of the oppressive pressures that the Chinese people experienced.

Historia
A Chance in the World is the unbelievably true story of a wounded and broken boy destined to become a man of resilience, determination, and vision. Through it all, Steve’s story teaches us that no matter how broken our past, no matter how great our misfortunes, we have it in us to create a new beginning and to build a place where love awaits.

What did you love best about A Chance in the World?
I enjoyed that the author was also the one who read out loud. It made me appreciate the story even more.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I finished it within two days. It had excruciating parts that were difficult to listen to, however his story of strength and courage made me want to continue in listening.
Any additional comments?
I found that this was a prominent issue within the foster care system that is all too easily overlooked. It also was profoundly eye-opening when he was searching for his biological family. He describes feelings and issues that are not widely talked about, and I found it to be refreshing that he is unafraid to discuss these.
