It was entertaining, but not as much as you'd expect for this type of book.

Historia
Princess Evaraine always knew she would one day wed a stranger, but her arranged marriage to the Prince of Garimore is nothing like she expected. She never anticipated losing her heart to the man she would marry. And she certainly would not have guessed that she’d be leaving him behind within hours of their wedding. After the arrival of devastating news, Evaraine must make her way home in a desperate—and likely doomed—attempt to save her father. One tiny shard of hope remains, but it is a hope that requires her to face the darkness alone.

Very entertaining!
Revisado: 08-30-23
The story was fun and interesting, the characters had depth and were well developed, and the reader did a good job. I would recommend the book and the series to anyone who enjoys an adventurous and pure romance. The whole series is very refreshing.

Romance and intrigue with tons of fun and personality.
Revisado: 05-18-23
This book was so fun to listen to. The plot was interesting, but what made the book so fun was the character development. None of the characters were flat and I became enamored with all the friends and family of the Tremains. The faith and trust in God shown by the characters was a beautiful part of the story,

Welcome to the School for Good and Evil, where best friends Sophie and Agatha are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. With her glass slippers and devotion to good deeds, Sophie knows she'll earn top marks at the School for Good and join the ranks of past students like Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Meanwhile, Agatha, with her shapeless black frocks and wicked black cat, seems a natural fit for the villains in the School for Evil.

Before you buy
Revisado: 04-08-22
I did not read this book.
A few minutes ago, I purchased The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani. Based on the synopsis, I was very interested. After my purchase, I looked up info about the author and found this quote, "In the books, there's no gay and straight, there's no boy and girl, there's no young or old, it's just what feels right in the moment. In the second book, there is a girl who changes into a boy, in her body. The change is described quite aggressively.”Dec 17, 2015
I have now returned this title. I feel very strongly that such ideas have ulterior motives and are not safe for children. The ". . . no young or old . . ." phrase is especially alarming. I sincerely wish that Audible would be more open with the content of books. I am strongly against censorship, but I want to understand what I, and my children, are consuming. A ratings system would help, but so would a brief description of possibly controversial issues. In spite of the fact that the author states that this book was written with adults in mind, it is marketed to children. This idea is NOT acceptable.

Historia
In Wisdom, Shelter. That’s the official motto of the Scholomance. I suppose you could even argue that it’s true—only the wisdom is hard to come by, so the shelter’s scant. Our beloved school does its best to devour all its students—but now that I’ve reached my senior year and have actually won myself a handful of allies, it’s suddenly developed a particular craving for me. Even if I somehow make it through the endless waves of maleficaria that it keeps throwing at me, I haven’t any idea how my allies and I are going to make it through the graduation hall alive.

Great storytelling EXCEPT...
Revisado: 10-14-21
Novik's world-building is incredible and her characters are satisfyingly complex. I could have recommended this book if it weren't for the somewhat explicit sex scene. I know that teenagers have sex, but I am extremely uncomfortable reading about it. No, thank you.

From a disappointed fan
Revisado: 11-12-20
As a fan of Marissa Meyer, I am very disappointed in this book. I'm half-way through and do not want to finish. The main character is very unlikeable and static. She's actually self-absorbed, condescending, and sometimes mean. She is critical of her parents and unappreciative of her siblings. She doesn't even care about the state of sea animals until she is forced to see the worst of the abuse they suffer. This kind of character can be engaging if he or she learns and develops, but Pru does very little.
My other problem with this book is its preachiness. It hits a lot of the woke, social justice warrior arguments like wealth redistribution, the evil of capitalism, overpopulation, and such. If you are into that, you will at least enjoy that the book belongs in your echo chamber. If not, it's tedious.

Holy Narrators Batman!
Revisado: 08-21-20
I really enjoyed this fantasy novel. The Eastern European/Russian folklore that is woven throughout the story is interesting and engaging. The difficult part of this book is the constant switching among many points of view. Especially in an audio format, it was frustrating when the narration changed from Miriam to Wanda to the tzar, and so on, with no notification at all! There was sometimes a SLIGHT change in the speaker's accent or tone, but I mostly had to depend upon context.

Great Writing, Too Many F-bombs
Revisado: 07-24-20
This was an intriguing and well-told story. Strike is a genius and Robin is likeable. I can appreciate the desire for realistic dialogue, but 500+ F-bombs is just excessive. I'm a HS teacher, so I hear vulgarity constantly. I like to avoid it when I can.

Historia
In a sleepy seaside town in Maine, recently widowed Eveleth "Evvie" Drake rarely leaves her large, painfully empty house nearly a year after her husband’s death in a car crash. Everyone in town, even her best friend, Andy, thinks grief keeps her locked inside, and Evvie doesn’t correct them. Meanwhile, in New York City, Dean Tenney, former Major League pitcher and Andy’s childhood best friend, is wrestling with what miserable athletes living out their worst nightmares call the "yips": he can’t throw straight anymore, and, even worse, he can’t figure out why.
