Not terribly disappointed, but also not thrilled
Revisado: 01-24-24
This set of Peter Wimsey mysteries was just okay. Given the apparent age of the recordings, I can understand some issues. But the stories went on and on, and there was confusion as to who is who, due to the voices all sounding so similar.

Historia
David Cobb is not a typical lawyer--he's more interested in dispensing God's wisdom than pertinent legal advice. High-stakes litigation is way outside his comfort zone. For many years, Zeke Caldwell has been concocting home remedies made from natural ingredients found in the coastal marshes near Wilmington, North Carolina. One of his remedies proved so effective that he patented it with the help of David's father. Now he suspects a big drug company has stolen his formula. What he doesn't know is that the theft has deeper, more evil roots.

GREAT STORY. TERRIBLE NARRATOR
Revisado: 01-18-23
This is actually an excellent and intriguing story. However, reader/narrator Matt Godfrey is terrible. Since he never changes his voice tone between and among characters, it is impossible if he is quoting a character in the story or just reading the narrative. Also, every single one of his characters sounds exactly the same, so it is impossible to tell who is speaking, which makes this story almost impossible to discern. He also never changes his inflections, making it all the more difficult.

Great Story! Terrible Narrator!
Revisado: 01-24-22
This story was engaging and the characters were very likable. The only problem was the narrator. Because he does not bother--or not know how--to have any sort of differences in his voice among the characters, everyone sounds exactly the same, read with the same monotonous tone and inflections, so unless the author gives a signal (such as, "he said" or "she replied"), you have no idea who is speaking.

Good Story But Bizarre Presentation
Revisado: 01-22-20
This story takes a while to get going, but once you get to around Chapter 7, it gets better. Unfortunately, the audio book narration is not good. Every character presented, even the male characters, sound like either Betty Boop or some variation of an elderly Katherine Hepburn.

Historia
Written to help listeners better understand Jesus's life, death, and ultimate mission, this new book by well-known preacher John MacArthur looks at an important - yet often misunderstood - section of the Bible: Isaiah 53. Often hailed as one of the greatest chapters in the Bible, this passage foretells the crucifixion of Jesus, a critical event in God's ultimate plan for salvation. Explaining the prophetic words of Isaiah 53 verse by verse, MacArthur highlights important connections to the history of Israel and to the New Testament.

Excellent resource from John MacArthur
Revisado: 02-27-19
this book, like so many other John MacArthur resources, was phenomenally well written. I especially loved the last chapter discussing the milieu in which Isaiah prophesied. So helpful.

A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want - money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman's past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn't know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist - an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Providing an intimate window into a loving Muslim home, Qureshi shares how he developed a passion for Islam before discovering, almost against his will, evidence that Jesus rose from the dead and claimed to be God. Truly Captivating, But Sometimes Hard To Relate
Revisado: 03-22-18
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend this book especially to a Muslim seeking to know more about his own faith, as well as that of Christians.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
While overall I understood why he did so, I felt that the build-up to his conversion took way too long, was too detailed and laborious.
What three words best describe Nabeel Qureshi’s performance?
Nabeel reads his story well, and given that it is his own life story, he read it with devotion and passion.
Did Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus inspire you to do anything?
It helped me to understand Muslims better.
Any additional comments?
I was a little unnerved at times by what seemed to be charismatic and faith healing elements in this story, especially given that Nabeel was not helped by that spectrum of society. However, overall Nabeel’s conversion story is intriguging and extremely inspirational.

Young history professor Jack Turner takes a retreat at a lakeside cabin just outside of Culpepper, Georgia, to work on his doctoral dissertation. The cabin is owned by an ambitious state senator, an inheritance from his father. Inside, everything is exactly the way it was when the old man died 10 years ago. While taking a break from his research, Jack snoops through the father's books and finds an old photo album filled with black-and-white pictures of orphaned children.

Another Excellent Dan Walsh Story!
Revisado: 03-22-18
If you could sum up Remembering Dresden in three words, what would they be?
I am a Dan Walsh fan, and this book did not disappoint. I like the way he holds back on a plot twist until one is way into the book, and then puts it out there. This is well written, nicely paced story.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the way Dan Walsh develops characters along the way.
What about Kirby Heyborne’s performance did you like?
His reading is very good, while at times a little stilted.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Actually I like to be able to listen to a book on my drive home from work each day, so the fact that I can look forward to this stretching into a few weeks is very rewarding for me—it is like an adventure I can enter into each afternoon as I drive home.
Any additional comments?
I hope Dan Walsh writes something more in the Jack Turner series.

Historia
Millions of Karon fans will be thrilled that it's life as usual in the wildly popular Mitford series: A beloved town character lands a front-page obituary, but who was it, exactly, who died? And what about the former mayor, born the year Lindbergh landed in Paris, who's still running for office? All this, of course, is but a feather on the wind compared to Muse editor J. C. Hogan's desperate attempts to find a cure for his marital woes. Will it be high-def TV or his pork chop marinade?

Good, but somewhat pedestrian
Revisado: 12-16-17
I am a huge Jan Karon fan and have been for years. While I looked very much forward to this book’s release, I sadly did not find this book to be as good as some prior ones. The story was slow and monotonous at points, seeming to lose direction, or perhaps grasping for something to talk about. I do love Ms. Karon’s wholesome, clean and meaningful writing. But this story’s day-to-day recounting of people’s pedestrian lives was a bit exhausting after several chapters. The last chapter or two were much better, and the book ended well.
