Historia
Inequality is America’s biggest problem. Unions are the single strongest tool that working people have to fix it. Organized labor has been in decline for decades. Yet it sits today at a moment of enormous opportunity. In the wake of the pandemic, a highly visible wave of strikes and new organizing campaigns have driven the popularity of unions to historic highs. The simmering battle inside of the labor movement over how to tap into its revolutionary potential—or allow it to be squandered—will determine the economic and social course of American life for years to come.

Amazing
Revisado: 01-31-20
Absolutely loved this book! As a primary care physician, I agree that many people on antidepressant certainly don’t need them; however, there is definitely a role that they play for others. The social takeaways are the most profound from this book. People that like this research-oriented book may also like Jonathan Haidt’s Happiness Hypothesis, which references a few of the same studies mentioned in this book. I would recommend this book to those who struggle with anxiety and depression, as well as those who have loved ones struggling with it.

In the last decade there has been a revolution in our understanding of the minds of infants and young children. We used to believe that babies were irrational, and that their thinking and experience were limited. Now Alison Gopnik - a leading psychologist and philosopher, as well as a mother - explains the cutting-edge scientific and psychological research that has revealed that babies learn more, create more, care more, and experience more than we could ever have imagined.

Historia
For centuries, poets and philosophers extolled the benefits of a walk in the woods: Beethoven drew inspiration from rocks and trees; Wordsworth composed while tromping over the heath; Nikola Tesla conceived the electric motor while visiting a park. Intrigued by our storied renewal in the natural world, Florence Williams sets out to uncover the science behind nature's positive effects on the brain.

Good message, but could be shorter
Revisado: 02-20-19
I think the idea of this book could have been summarized in just a couple chapters. I took away some good messages, still.
I agree with other reviewers that the narrator is annoying. I usually am not as picky about it, but this one really got to me in how forced and artificial she sounded.

Revisado: 02-04-19
I thought this was very good, and to the point. Perhaps for insightful readers, many of the points could be extrapolated from Brene Brown’s other books that emphasize whole-hearted living. However, I felt it very helpful to have them spelled out. This book goes through the 10 guideposts of whole-hearted living and applies them each to parenting.

Historia
The narrator of Atwood's riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he is sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. He searches for supplies in a wasteland where insects proliferate and pigoons and wolvogs ravage the pleeblands, where ordinary people once lived, and the Compounds that sheltered the extraordinary. As he tries to piece together what has taken place, the narrative shifts to decades earlier. How did everything fall apart so quickly?

Didn’t want to stop listening! A bit creepy and seemingly very possible, with the way our world is going at times. A call of warning from Margaret Atwood. Definite themes throughout - the type of book that you get more out of if you listen/read a second time. Highly recommended.

Historia
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

This book is actually a live recording of the author running a seminar on vulnerability. I found her stories and messages utterly attention-capturing and thought-provoking. It’s the type of audiobook so chalk-full of valuable messages that you want to stop it every few minutes to reflect on it. I already know I’ll be re-listening to portions of the book long into the future.
Highly recommend!!

Historia
The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

Loved it!!
Revisado: 09-16-18
Another amazing book from Jonathan Haidt! If you’re familiar with his books, you’ll recognize some of the same themes/points he brings up (ie from Happiness hypothesis and Psychology of morality). However, this book is dedicated to a very important trend we all need to pay attention to, lest our species may be doomed to fail (but I may be catastrophizing...). Haidt is brilliant, book is very timely, and though I don’t have kids, I think this is an essential book for all parents.
