Historia
Are stars like Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, and Serena Williams genetic freaks put on Earth to dominate their respective sports? Or are they simply normal people who overcame their biological limits through sheer force of will and obsessive training? In this controversial and engaging exploration of athletic success, Sports Illustrated senior writer David Epstein tackles the great nature vs. nurture debate and traces how far science has come in solving this great riddle.

deeply flawed in interpretation and performance
Revisado: 01-02-21
while a review of the scientific literature in sports genetics is worthwhile, the authors conclusions are flawed, filled with ecological fallacy, and contradictory statements about caution in drawing conclusions followed by exactly the kind of conclusion we should be cautious of. also, the performance is distracting because the narrator tries to give individual voices to researchers using truly terrible and kind of racist accents.

ruined by narrator
Revisado: 02-14-18
the narrator tries to do voices but they come off poorly. it may have just been his cadence, but he sounded contemptuous through the entire book.

Historia
Archetypal wild man Edward Abbey and proper, dedicated Wallace Stegner left their footprints all over the western landscape. Now, the award-winning nature writer David Gessner follows the ghosts of these two remarkable writer-environmentalists - from Stegner's birthplace in Saskatchewan to the site of Abbey's pilgrimages to Arches - braiding their stories and asking how they speak to the lives of all those who care about the West. What is the future of a region beset by droughts and fires, by fracking and drilling?

Enjoyable but long
Revisado: 12-10-15
What made the experience of listening to All the Wild That Remains the most enjoyable?
The two authors whose lives this book explores provide two archtypes that speak to every environmentally aware citizen at some point. In addition, the discussion of the desert west was wonderful
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The book was about 30% longer than it needed to be
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. My husband and I listened to it over many sitting and two long car rides
