Historia
They tried to kill or capture Yozef Kolsko. The possibility that Caedellium could have peaceful years going forward is refuted. The key is bringing down Narthon. But how? Caedellium is too small, despite innovations by Yozef Kolsko (Joseph Colsco) and Mark Kaldwel (Caldwell), humans cast away on the planet Anyar. Allies are needed. Campaigns to be planned. Risks to be taken. For Yozef Kolsko, it means assuming roles he never imagined or believed himself capable. Anyar will never be the same.

The weakest link
Revisado: 01-12-23
By far the least inspired, least interesting installment of the series. With a narrowing focus on warfare, there’s just less going on, fewer surprises, less innovation, less mystery. It’s a pretty flat footed novel that might as well be set in earth’s history, rather than Anyar. I also cringe so deeply from any of the chapters focusing on Yosef’s polygamist marriage. It’s so gross and distracting. Total straight male wish fulfillment. I hate it so much. What started out as a fascinating thought experiment in Cast Under An Alien Sun has devolved into masturbatory prose and bland militaristic jargon ad nauseam.

Historia
Joseph Colsco, Mark Caldwell, and Heather Chen. Cast away by aliens onto a planet inhabited by humans, transplanted there by a second alien race thousands of years in the past, and for reasons unknown. Each of the three found themselves left naked on beaches scattered across the planet Anyar. Each struggled to survive as strangers amidst humans with technology centuries behind Earth’s. Each lived through years of adjustments, trials, dangers, and new lives beyond anything they could have imagined - or feared.

Writing at its best
Revisado: 07-17-21
A story that continues to grow and become more interesting as it evolves. Great ideas and characters. Well written but I suspect a bit too detailed, however any less would distract from the story. I look forward to the next volume in the series. Thanks to the effort of the author for such an enjoyable read.

Historia
Joseph Colsco has survived what many would not have - cast naked on an alien planet amidst humans speaking an unknown language and with a different culture and history. Now, known to the people of Caedellium as Yozef Kolsko, he has risen out of despair to prominence and finds himself a central figure in the culmination of a struggle against an imperialist power bent on subjugation. The clans of the Island of Caedellium must gird themselves for what is to come.

Great fantasy of how one person can change history
Revisado: 02-12-18
Where does Forged in Fire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is a long book, but I really enjoyed the detail as the author trys to bring 21st-century science into a 17-century culture and the consequences of how such and environment would respond to a radical changes in scientific knowledge. I think this is a book better listened to than read because of all the colorful accents that the various characters bring to the story. Like many books that have become a favorite of mine (ie Cryptonomicon) details makes the difference. I will be looking forward to Olan's next writing because his storys are just plain fun.
What did you like best about this story?
Wonderful imagary world
What about Jonathan Davis’s performance did you like?
great reader especially with all the accents.

Historia
A freak accident casts Joe Colsco naked onto another planet inhabited by humans with technology circa 1700. In time, Joe, now known as Yozef Kolsko, makes the difficult acceptance of a new life. But he has become embroiled in a struggle beyond any dream he could have had. The Narthani are a militant society intent on subjugating the Caedelli, the people he's come to identify with. Unwittingly, the Narthani themselves are creating an opponent unlike any they have ever faced, an enemy beyond their conceptions.

If you could sum up Heavier Than a Mountain in three words, what would they be?
A well-written series that you won't be able to stop listening to. The author has crafted a tail that is best listened because the narrator has done such an outstanding job. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

The author went to sleep
Revisado: 01-07-16
Any additional comments?
I usually like to listen to Charles Stross's works, but this one is just poorly thought out. When I finished I was confused thinking there must be more. Never have I listened to a book where so much is left unresolved. Most of the story lines are remain dangling. I am rather frustrated and will not be listening or reading anything from this author anytime soon. So potential readers be forewarned, if you read the series expect your first response to be where is the next novel to complete the series. Sadly, there is none (at least I am aware of).
