I loved those two

The main characters were wonderful. I wish they were my friends. It's rare that two unique people work together, they are usually matched with others and have obstacles to being together. You'll have to listen to see if they go separate ways or work it out.

What a disappointment

Boring, unsatisfactory ending, not tied into the plot of The Firm at all. No intrigue, no plot twists no tricks. Kinda preachy about the death penalty when that had nothing to do with the bulk of the story. We never find out who the "bad boys" were. I think John Grisham has lost his touch.

no longer constant

I have been a constant reader since the 80s. I love Holly and was excited to read this book despite the author's Twitter insults. I was disheartened that the bad characters won't wear masks, are MAGA, and die. The good are protected by the vaccine but still need masks for some reason.

Politics can be overlooked, but the narrator should have listened to the Holly that we have all come to know. I didn't recognize her in this portrayal.

The worst aspect of this was that we knew who the killers were the whole time. No great reveal, no surprises, nothing supernatural. We just watched her walk into a spiderweb without any backup when she should have informed her partner & her good friend the cop.

too many coincidences

Too much jumping around between characters and between present and past. How did the brother happen to be working for the bad guys? Really, the wedding and the niece the same weekend in the same town, and then her uncle is living right there the whole time? They go on surveillance together but no discussions of the past? They find the van and then don't tell anyone?

All red state people are bad

it's about a hired killer, but the bad people are everyone who likes Trump and everyone who lives in red states. Like we would vandalize or harm anyone over a bumper sticker. Why haven't half the population been killed? The author is letting his TDS bleed into the books.

Seventeen hours for a lecture

There were no tricks, no bait and switch and none of the legal shenanigans we've come to expect from this author. It's just a straightforward story ending in a lecture about the death penalty. I grew up in Pascagoula and enjoyed hearing about my old stopping grounds but but the surprises I was looking for never came.

I might enjoy this more if I actually had some of the background. The premise seemed good and the audio is incredible. I gave it 2 hours and I'm giving up.

The first 2 parts were fine

I agree with many of the other reviewers who did not enjoy part three of the book. In fact I'm not even going to finish it which is a rarity for me. the book should have just ended at part 2.

The narrator was fantastic. I hated the sound of some of the character's voices, but then again I was supposed to they were villains. The premise of the story is silly but then it all seems like it could be a normal situation.

not really a sci-fi thriller.

This is more of an interpersonal story about two people in solitude and struggling with very important questions. I kept expecting some really cool science or science fantasy and I never got it.
