Great Wisdom to Take In
Revisado: 11-15-20
The authors do an excellent job of taking years of books they have read, the seminars they have attended and boil them down to their essence. The book streamlines it all into a coherent process to make it easily approachable. In the process they save you many thousands of your own dollars. Combine this with the time worn wisdom of Elena’s parents, this makes for a very sweet read. Well worth the read.
Could it be better organized and sequenced. Yes. If you let yourself get caught up in that you will miss out, at your own peril.
The audio read sparkles in those moments where they speak of their love for each other. It is there again while telling of the conversations with Elena’s parents and the discovery that came with them. That passion for the core 3 Rules and their love is lacking in the read of much of the rest of the material. As a book audiophile, this is not enough to keep me from recommending this read.

Historia
Using his legendary ability to get to the root of human potential, Napoleon Hill digs deep to reveal how fear, procrastination, anger, and jealousy prevent us from realizing our personal goals. This long-suppressed parable, once considered too controversial to publish, was written by Hill in 1938 following the publication of his classic bestseller, Think and Grow Rich. Annotated and edited for a contemporary audience by Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Three Feet from Gold coauthor Sharon Lechter, this book is profound, powerful, resonant, and rich with insight.

Not One of Hill's Best Works.
Revisado: 01-15-19
Are there some good nuggets in the book? Yes. Is there anything completely groundbreaking and new, that wasn't part of TAGR? NO
I think we can agree that the Interview with the Devil premise is a vehicle that Hill (if he did indeed write this) uses to present his own opinions about a number of political and business hot buttons.
I personally dubious about the proposition that Hill wrote this. The statement from Sharon Lechter that this she didn't update the writing style or language points to the problem. The language is every bit modern and doesn't sounds a bit like what Hill uses in TAGR. I was still on the fence on this point until the example the devil uses in regards to having the growth and wisdom it takes to hold money. The one referring to actors and professional athletes. The latter of which were barely paid enough to live back in those days, much less enough to throw them off track.
And while we are talking Susan Lecter, I find most of her actual input to the book to be lacking value and self-serving. Most are a copy/paste of "Hill's" quotes, offering little to no substantial additional value. And what's with pushing her book multiple times? Could totally do without those.
In the Audible version the devil's part is very poorly over-acted. The reader was acting as if it was some piece of Shakespeare or something.
My final point is more an observation than anything else. There are two points, one at the end of Chapter 3 and the other at the end of Chapter 7, where Hill clearly shows that he has previously read Wallace Waddles "The Science of Getting Rich". The language pattern is very close to those used by Waddles in his book.

No feeling this one.
Revisado: 12-17-18
Steven made a very valid point with the title and early on this book. Love the relation of the artists/hero's journey. Add the telling of Zen in the Art of Archery, as very profound and will ultimately lead me to read that hook. Overall this could have been written as a multipart blog post in about 3-4 parts, most of the book feels like filler and not consequential to the point. Or maybe a scratch at the surface of what could have been a much deeper dive of a subset of the parts.
Additionally 100+ chapters in 192 pages? Verbalizing capital letters in the text that came across just fine from the readers inflection. Finally, the "back to me" statements weren't required to let me know that fact. The text seemed to do that adequately.

Historia
In this eye-opening account, Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice. Not only is the cliché flawed - preexisting passions are rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work - but it can also be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. After making his case against passion, Newport sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving what they do.

Some good info to gleen here.
Revisado: 11-01-18
I'm not bought in to the either/or nature of Cal's arguments here. As with most things, I think the truth is in the middle. Meaning that when you find your passion, or something you are passionate about (for example the guitar player), that success doesn't just happen cuz you are passionate. You must then seek to gain career capital to achieve success in your chosen passion. While some may find an endless chase from one passion to the next, many find one thing they can be passionate about and pursue that and if they reach an end to that pursuit seek another passion to pursue. I dont believe that many go in to sorrow over having reached a false end.
If you look past that proposition, you will find much good info here.

Bad read of and OK book.
Revisado: 10-24-18
Unfortunately nothing really new in here. Far to many references to other people's material, admirable that he didn't try to make it out as his own stuff. Still light on the true content.
The actor reading this stuff wasn't the right choice, very nonemotional and blah reading that doesn't match the dynamic person that Dean is. I was really expecting Dean as the reader to bring his own stories to life.

Historia
Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.

Whether in business or not, you need to read this book.
Revisado: 10-16-18
Keith is a treasure trove of outstanding information and presents the concept of Thinking Time in a direct and matter of fact way that anyone can listen too. Even though a book targeted to the business owner, there are lessons for owners, employees and the person on the street all throughout this book.
There are many times that having the author read his own book is a failed exercise of ego, this is not one of them. I can't imagine a better reading of Keith's material than what is presented here. Now go read the book. You will thank me later.

Good information, far beneath the bible.
Revisado: 07-03-15
In places, an over abundance of bible quotes, only serves to muddy the waters and doesn't uplift the information. The material, though valuable, is hard to dig out behind it all.
The performance of the characters in the story was terrible, clinging to stereotypical women's voices was tiresome from the get go. He would have done better just reading the material straight.

Historia
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.
