A continuing tale of man's cruelty to man
Revisado: 06-07-22
As I read this book, I was suddenly awestruck that it didn't happen in the 1800s but in the 90s and 2000s. What's even more troubling is that this is probably the experience people still have in my home country Nigeria where in the northern parts people are kidnapped and their villages ransacked.
The world will really become modern I'm my opinion when slavery is no more.

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

She's crazy all right!
Revisado: 05-30-22
What genre is this again? Horror comedy?
It's crazy what some individuals endure growing up but as they say, success never walks a straight path, it often staggers along like a drunken man. Oh, I did laugh, very hard too!
Go girl, though I know nothing is stopping you anyway.

Absolutely love this book and the narration and like many good things it has ended but cannot expire.

Historia
A huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London.

The most remarkable book I have read post COVID-19
Revisado: 03-02-22
I picked this up from my wish list because I wanted a lengthy book to win a walking challenge but it was gone too soon.
The references to historical figures juxtaposed with well thought out fictional characters was marvelous. My best and saddest moment was the post office boy handing out notices to the families of deceased soldiers in Aberowen, I cried remembering my late sister and the grief of wartime families.
Onto the next book in the trilogy I march!

'She throws her head back and pushes her chest forward and lets go a huge blast right into the centre of his body. The rivulets and streams of red scarring run across his chest and up around his throat. She'd put her hand on his heart and stopped him dead.' Suddenly - tomorrow or the day after - girls find that with a flick of their fingers, they can inflict agonizing pain and even death.

Just the very problem with power
Revisado: 01-21-22
Nigerian here. Naomi's Tunde is so spot on, a Yoruba demon they are called nowadays: good natured, handsome, brilliant, ambitious... Casanova. Spoiler, thanks for not killing him.
The book is an interesting take on the early stages of a suddenly matriarch world. The Power had caused a shift in the balance of power and it has corrupted more than a few.
Overall it's a remarkable listen with some great character development. It's easy to become obsessed with a Roxy and to explore the similarities between the motivations of some politicians and religious leaders.

This book takes conspiracy theories too far.
Revisado: 03-02-17
A convoluted story in my opinion. I've seen authors mix science fiction and fantasy well but this is messy. Too many moments of enlightenment and conspiracies that span three generations? No one is that good a strategist.

The Story Matures
Revisado: 08-21-16
Great storyline that makes me wonder how much of the future writers must visualize. The joy and sadness, dealing with bliss and loss are all so real in a magical world that it's a joy to read.
While I did enjoy his early school days, the 5 year was well depicted; the story moves seamlessly from child fantasy to our world where moments of joy and sadness shape us.
The best part for me is where Fred and George burns out in style.

SuperFreakonomics challenges the way we think all over again, exploring the hidden side of everything with such questions as: How is a street prostitute like a department-store Santa? What do hurricanes, heart attacks, and highway deaths have in common? Can eating kangaroo save the planet? Levitt and Dubner mix smart thinking and great storytelling like no one else.

Revisado: 12-13-15
Ok, this book is weird. Superfreakonomics gave so many insights into different fields of life, with a single overriding commonality that humans (yea, and monkeys) respond to incentives. Good learning materials for entrepreneurs.
