Ok story but narration brings it down
Revisado: 11-08-23
The story is not bad, but I wasn't a fan of the narration. I think Ms. Suheyla El Attar was a poor choice for this particular book. Her pronunciation and characterization seemed exaggerated at times, shattering immersion. My recommendation is to skip this one and get the Kindle version instead. I was planning on listening to the whole series on Audible, but I will skip the next books in the series read by this person.

Potentially ok story ruined by poor narration
Revisado: 03-26-13
This is my first David Eddings book. Unfortunately, I don't think I can objectively critique the story because the narrator's accent and voice acting practically ruined the book for me. The performance was a bit over the top, and the voices didn't seem to match the characters at all. For example, I didn't expect a Pandion knight to sound like a 21st century cool dude.
Maybe Mr. Abbey is not a terrible reader, and for a different type of book he would have been ok. But for a fantasy novel with a medieval setting it was a very poor match. After listening to the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, with its excellent narrator, I expected something better than this.
If you are really interested in this series, I definitely recommend passing on the audiobook and getting the print version instead.

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

Well written tale of a fascinating character
Revisado: 11-03-11
Before reading this, I new something about Steve Jobs. I knew he was a perfectionist, could be a jerk to others and had a fascination for black turtlenecks. But there were many aspects of his life I didn't know anything about. It is hard to understand what makes a person "tick" until you see their whole life in perspective. At times, when reading this book I thought "wow, this is an awful person". After finishing the book, I have a different view. I think when you look at his life as a whole, he was definitely a positive force in this world. He had many flaws, but he had vision and the will to push his vision. These are rare traits, and they only appear to once in a while in a generation. It is definitely a fascinating tale that is worth reading.
As far as the audio is concerned, I had no problem with the narrator. I think he did an excellent job in conveying the various emotions in the text. I don't really understand the negative comments from some reviewers. The narrator never tries to "imitate" Steve Jobs and I don't think that he could. it seems to me that those who are complaining would have preferred that the books be narrated by Jobs himself.
