Historia
In 1929, in the blue-collar city of Portsmouth, Ohio, a company built a swimming pool the size of a football field; named Dreamland, it became the vital center of the community. Now, addiction has devastated Portsmouth, as it has hundreds of small rural towns and suburbs across America - addiction like no other the country has ever faced. How that happened is the riveting story of Dreamland.

Eye Opener on America’s Opioid Crisis
Revisado: 03-26-20
I’ve been a nurse for 27 years and have cared for many patients who are on heroin or who have overdosed on heroin. I have administered probably thousands and thousands of doses of opioid pills and injections. As nurses, we thought we could spot a drug user on the spot.
Dreamland has opened my eyes. I did not realize the extent of opioid prescriptions that played into the crisis of overdoses. Nor did I realize how the network of black tar from Mexico had contributed.
As a nurse, I think it is important for healthcare workers to understand how drug companies can play into The sale of drugs. We constantly rely on, and depend on, the drug companies to give us accurate information from drug studies; we listen to their drug reps, and now we find that the pharmaceutical company Purdue is mainly to blame for false information.
The author was very detailed, spending a lot of time and research obtaining fax from various viewpoints and most of all who were involved. Definitely recommend reading this book especially to healthcare workers. It was a bit tough remembering who certain characters are as the book jumps from different places, scenarios, and characters and then wraps around to meet them again.
Long book. I’m not one much for reading books. I read this book due to taking a class on illicit drugs. Thankfully, I had an Audible to read the book with him to keep me focused and moving along quickly.
