Too much unnecessary description and fluffy

The history of this time and beliefs of the people who lived it is very fascinating to me and I was so looking forward to learning more about the Pic's, Druid's, and Celt's. I guess I did learn somewhat about the belief system and the Gods but the story was so slow I really lost interest in learning and just wanted to finish the book. The author uses way to much unnecessary description and fluff, I could only guess to lengthen the book. If they took out a quarter of the fluffy and over descriptive paragraphs then the book's volume would be reduce be half. The main character seemed immature and clueless for the age she was portrayed to be. It seemed, at times to have a modern tone to conversations between characters.
