Repetitive and predictable, an author without a new story to tell
Revisado: 01-17-25
Leans too heavily on the tropes, plot lines, and characterizations of her previous series. If you’ve read Daughter of the Moon Goddess this standalone feels stale and unoriginal in comparison. A lack of originality from an author I thought had more potential.

Historia
The Empire of the Wolf is on its knees, but there's life in the great beast yet. To save it, Sir Konrad Vonvalt and Helena must look beyond its borders for allies—to the wolfmen of the southern plains, and the pagan clans in the north. But old grievances run deep, and both factions would benefit from the fall of Sova. Even these allies might not be enough. Their enemy, the zealot Bartholomew Claver, wields infernal powers bestowed on him by a mysterious demonic patron. If Vonvalt and Helena are to stand against him, they will need friends on both sides of the mortal plane.

The great decline
Revisado: 02-23-24
A jumble of esoteric dreamscapes and eldritch horrors overshadowing the foundations of what made this series remarkable. Bloated with magical hallucinations, demons, monsters, and prophetic beings of tripe caricatures reminiscent of the oft repeated battle of ultimate good versus inherent evil. The final chapters manage to regain some of the legal, moral nuances that were the driving conflicts of earlier entries, but it was done too little too late to right this series that will unfortunately no longer be a frequently recommended gem of modern fantasy.

Historia
The Everlorn Empire's grip on Thanet is tighter than ever. The God-Incarnate himself has arrived on its shores to crush the struggling rebellion and carry out his final, sinister plan: he will sacrifice the entire island in order to rise, reincarnated from its ashes. The rebellion is struggling to separate allies from enemies, and to figure out a way to stop the slow destruction of everything and everyone they care for. Meanwhile, Cyrus is disappearing deeper beneath the vicious mask of the "Vagrant". Under the mantle of the legendary assassin, he may be strong enough to take down the Empire.

Male narration is AWFUL
Revisado: 01-13-24
Replacing Devante Johnson for any reason is criminal especially on the final installment. New male narrator is nasally with a false sing songy accent for Cyrus that is beyond distracting. I’ll be finishing this with a physical book as I absolutely cannot stand him

Historia
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Worst audiobook production quality ever!
Revisado: 10-11-23
Immediately avoid wasting money on this! Not only does Stephen King have no skill as a narrator, but the entire drawn out affair is peppered with ear piercing sound bites and random keyboard noises that are out of volume with the rest of the book and will ruin your hearing as well as your sanity. This book is so unbelievably bad I can’t believe audible still allows people to buy this in good conscience.

Historia
To Paradise is a fin de siècle novel of marvelous literary effect, but above all it is a work of emotional genius. The great power of this remarkable novel is driven by Yanagihara’s understanding of the aching desire to protect those we love—partners, lovers, children, friends, family, and even our fellow citizens—and the pain that ensues when we cannot.

Not on the same level as A Little Life
Revisado: 10-01-23
A disjointed collection of stories only loosely threaded together in the last hour where everyone shares the same name and ephemerally seeking “paradise”. I loved a Little Life and while the author certainly writes well the separate narratives told through wildly different structures didn’t reach the same emotional catharsis as her previous work. Unremarkable from an author that has done better.

This is the ending this story deserved
Revisado: 07-09-23
Honestly we’ve known how Cradle would end for several books now it just took one prolonged training montage to get there. I had different expectations for how the final story arc of Dreadgod and Waybound would play out and to find that what I thought would just be the plot of one book consume the entirety of the final two novels was disappointing when I imagine all that could have been…. This was less the emotional catharsis this series deserved and more of the inevitable conclusion of nearly every reality.

Historia
Relos Var's final plans to enslave the universe are on the cusp of fruition. He believes there's only one being in existence that might be able to stop him: the demon Xaltorath. As these two masterminds circle each other, neither is paying attention to the third player on the board, Kihrin. Unfortunately, keeping himself classified in the "pawn" category means Kihrin must pretend to be everything the prophecies threatened he'd become: the destroyer of all, the sun eater, a mindless, remorseless plague upon the land.

The ending this series deserved
Revisado: 06-15-23
Not the best narrators as every male character had a falsely deep raspy voice and every female was an octave above tolerable. It’s a great story with a satisfying ending, bust most of this book didn’t feel like the concluding novel. There was so much buildup filler that the first 75% was easily some of the more excruciating and wasteful chapters of the entire series. At this point in the series I also don’t think the footnotes repeating basic points of fact from the first novels were even necessary
